Oh come on, now! Obviously, Idol can get the rights to more contemporary music, so what's with all these golden oldies? Good grief, even my retired mother in Florida complains about this. She loves Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Ne-Yo, and Beyonce, for heaven's sakes! It's not like the Idol audience will run away if they have a whole season of "Music Released Since the End of The Reagan Administration".

Ridiculous. Aren't they supposed to be looking for someone who can sing contemporary pop/country? Who cares if they can sing oldies?

You know who was really good at singing oldies? Taylor Hicks. That worked out great, right?

Taylor was never good at singing the oldies.
That was just it.
He could imitate the song, but he never did anything but make it a bad rehash of a familiar old song.
Most "singers" on Idol do the same thing. There were a few exceptions to the rule, but they are/were few and far between.

Hey, I like the oldies! And they have been handled well in past seasons with decent singers (and they also have the terrible misfortune of being given songs now that have been done on Idol MANY times). I always liked the big band/standards night. The key is that you do SOMETHING with it to be individual. Right now with all the current songs they're singing it's really karaoke because no one can do anything original. And Simon was the only one would come out and call karaoke, karaoke.
Jacob is claiming that Jimmy Asshole threw him under the bus. He didn't want to do that song at all, knowing full well that a duet would not play well with one guy doing both parts. But apparently they get major pressure from the idiot in the hat and sunglasses. That's no newsflash, I suspected right from the beginning that the people he wanted out got lousy songs and whacky arrangements to get them out. I'm sure that sort of thing has been going on all along, but never was it more obvious then when they threw in this guy.

We're getting a theme from the Pleistocene era, but the mentor is going to be Lady Gaga. Can't wait to see what Scotty makes of her!

I never liked Jacob's voice, so he didn't need any sabotaging help. He was awful.
Luther -- he was not.

Good at all...he was not.
And apparently, he was a self-centered asshole to boot. Remember when he told us several weeks ago that if we dare vote him out, we hadn't looked well enough in the mirror?
Take that, you screaming little over-singer.

There's going to be a split theme this week, Leiber & Stoller as well as Songs That Inspire. Darn, that means Scotty won't get to sing Hound Dog and Yakety Yak!
James is going to sing Don't Stop Believin'.

I thought he was awful, even without the over-singing, and then he kept making comments about being like Luther and being an artiste and all that. I'm like "what the hell are you talking about?"
