I read an anecdote about her over the weekend. I have no idea whether it's true or when exactly it happened, but here goes:
Queen Elizabeth was participating in some grand parade showing that involved hundreds of soldiers on horseback lined up. One of the horses suddenly erupted in a long string of farts. When it finally stopped, the officer riding that horse called out his apologies. The Queen replied 'That's all right, Gerald- I thought it was you.'
I'm choosing to believe every bit of it.

I seem to have heard that story before. I definitely think it's true, we know she had a sense of humour.

For the morbid among us - Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor's death certificate. Cause of death listed as "old age." Occupation: Her Majesty the Queen.

Gyles Brandreth is an author, a broadcaster, and friend and biographer of the Royal Family. He’s dined with Liz, and is friends Charles and Camilla. He has a new book coming out about the Queen and an excerpt was serialized in the Mail+. And damn, this is an Authorized Biography with a capital "A" and "B". Many people were interviewed and on the record, her aides, past secretaries, QEII herself, Queen Cam, etc. QEII had a form of “myeloma”, a bone marrow cancer. It tracks; the mobility issues, the tiredness and weight loss. She knew her time was limited and faced it head on. It makes sense now why she spent so much of the past four years keeping the peace/ostriching with her family. She knew she was not long for this world. But despite her illness, she was as smart as a tack, present, and had agency over her decisions and day-to-day life This must've been what precipitated the assholish "I want to make sure the queen is protected" BS out of her grandson's mouth. If I were the family, I'd be pissed. Didn't show up because of "security" issues and his "beloved granny" was dying.

It was bad enough that he was making excuses to avoid visiting his grandmother in her mid 90’s but knowing she had bone cancer makes it even more unforgivable that he couldn’t be bothered visiting.

Oh that’s sad. It also means that the horrible Lady Colin Campbell was correct. She claimed the queen had bone cancer.

Lady Colin Campbell can be kooky and sometimes inappropriate but she has good sources.
She was also the first person on record who talked about the incident between MM and Catherine was because of tights.

I heard an interesting theory about the Gyles Brandreth book and the cancer revelation (which the palace has not denied yet, and I think that’s something they’d actually come out and say isn’t true). The writer is very close to the royal family. He’s a close friend of Charles and Camilla, and was also close to Elizabeth and Philip. What if the royals gave him discreet approval to share this in advance of Harry’s book? If she did have cancer, would Harry have known? Maybe that was one of the bombshells he was planning to drop in Spare? So they gave Gyles Brandreth permission to share the info. Just a theory.
