The more I think about it, the more the whole thing makes me sad for the state of women in entertainment. Yeah, this. The Attack of the Show people hired her to do exploitive and misogynist comedy. The Daily Show hired her to do more crappy comedy (even if you can argue she was "unpolished" when she began on TDS, she's been there long enough that she should have stopped sucking by now). I mean yeah, she sucks, but... people keep hiring her. I'm honestly far more depressed that in the year 2011, even a supposedly "progressive" show like The Daily Show seems more interested in promoting an assholish, unfunny Hot Girl than an intelligent and funny Average Girl.

Yup. At first, I figured Stewart saw something in her and was just giving her time to get comfortable. But now, I wonder. She has no where near the amount of talent the other correspondents do. At least they're not having her report in a bikini?

I think Olivia Munn is getting so much heat because she basically started out in a Pam Anderson/ Carmen Electra role and was hired to do a Tina Fey/ Amy Poehler job. Instead of getting bitchy about it she needs to work harder to prove that she can do the job or do what Pam and Carmen do and milk the hot chick thing.

Instead of getting bitchy about it she needs to work harder to prove that she can do the job or do what Pam and Carmen do and milk the hot chick thing. I think that's a pretty good assessment. She got hired for a job that was way out of her league. If she continued on guy shows where she put stuff in her mouth, she'd probably be fine. That sound mean, but that is where her level of talent seems to lie. I can see her doing well on goofy shows aimed at dudes because she's hot and she's willing to do things for a laugh. I understand that things suck for women in Hollywood, but Olivia getting hired for a job she can't carry because of her looks isn't helping. It's really more of the same. I think progress would be something like Rachel Dratch, who is funny but who has never been in a leading-lady role because of her looks, landing the lead on a sitcom because she's genuinely funny. Yes, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are leads on sitcoms and are genuinely funny, but they are also far easier on the eyes than Dratch. And yes, she is not helping her case at all with her "Well, you're all just a bunch of fat, non-rich, jealous haters!" reactions. Beyond the fact that is elementary-school level fightin' words, have they ever actually caused someone to back off? Olivia should actually try being funnier to get people to shut up. If she has been trying to be funnier and this is the best she's got, well, maybe she needs to just know when to fold 'em. Or at least quietly cash her checks as long as they continue to come in.

I completely agree. I just wish the men who perpetuate this by hiring a "Pam Anderson type" for a Tina Fey job would catch as much heat as Olivia Munn herself does.

You know I think Olivia has Jezebel, aka those fat sandwich eating haters that need to take a walk, to thank for the fact she's still on TDS. TDS was extremely defensive about the Jezebel write up and were rather over the top with their defenses. TDS seemed to think the article accused them of hiring no women at all. So, they trounced out all their female behind-the-scenes staff and the women released an open letter going on about how great working for TDS is. Which that's great and all but that's not what the article stated. It stated TDS has a poor track record when it comes to hiring female correspondents and hiring women writers. The article clearly got under TDS and Jon Stewart's skin and I don't think they want to go through that again. So, they keep Olivia on, even though they know she sucks, because they fear if they let her go they will be accused of sexism again. Of course, this shows TDS just doesn't get it. It's one thing to let go of a woman comedian because her style of comedy just doesn't work for the show. It's quite another to let go of a woman comedian simply because the producers have decided she just isn't hot enough.

When Craig Kilborn was on The Daily Show* (back in the mists of time when I were a young 'un) they had a great female correspondent who was on air all the time. Maybe I'm just old but I wouldn't have thought of the Daily Show as being female unfriendly.
*The Daily Show did exist prior to Jon Stewart and it was just as funny. Their coverage of the Clinton- Jennifer Flowers "Trial of the Century (if it had happened)"? Classic.
