He's kind of dorky looking (no beard); although James Wolpert is the SUPER dorky-looking one. Ray is the "swamp pop" guy (whatever that is/according to Blake). I actually did like his performance this week but normally he bores me tears.
Jacquie DOES suck at that. I was like, "Oh, God, this sounds awful." The first few lines sounded really off and bizarre. Then she started hitting the high notes/more powerful notes and sounded great. It really did expose her weakness, although I think it's something she can probably work on/improve.
The thing about Tessanne is, I know she's an amazing singer -- if not the best of the bunch. But for some reason, she's not a fave of mine. She seems like an absolute sweetheart, but for whatever reason, her performances just make me go "meh." I don't know why.
I like Cole a lot. I am terrified that there are woodland creatures living in his beard, but I love his voice.

I wish they would stop encouraging James to do uptempo, walk around the stage stuff. He is much better standing relatively still so he can stay on key.

I know there was a whole lotta love for little Jacqui, but damn I wish Matthew had gone further. I'm watching the finale now, and having him back just made me realize how much I liked his performances.

I initially thought Matthew was going to win, so I'm surprised he didn't go farther.
I think Tessanne deserved the win. She's not my favorite from this season, but damn she is good.
There was something about Jacquie's voice that I found off-putting -- a harshness/brassiness. She's talented for sure, but it almost hurt to listen to her.
Much as Christina gets on my nerves sometimes, I am a little sad for her. She seemed to warm up a lot this season and you could tell she really wanted a win.
I'm so easily entertained, though. LOVED the Gaga/Christina duet. I believe this comment from ONTD sums up my feelings:

HGTV looooved Jacquie. I didn't think she was that great. I mean, she is great. Her voice is very strong and she has great control for such a young age. But her voice is not consistently pretty. She'll have some pretty notes here and there but, for the most part, I agree, Shan, that's she's harsh.
I thought Tessanne was AMAZEBALLS. I got goosebumps pretty much every time she sang. I totally think she deserved it.

I think the problem with Jacquie was that Christina constantly gave her diva songs to sing and there wasn't much variety in her performances. Oh look, Jacquie hits another high note. Also, she didn't seem to connect to the songs. Technically they were perhaps perfect (I can't say, I think I'm a little tone deaf) but she didn't seem to get into the heart of the song, the emotion that was needed to sell the song. Christina needed to work with her more on that, try and find some personal experience that might make the song real to Jacquie.
I also thought Adam mad a brilliant move when he gave Tessane the Whitney Houston song for the final performance. It was as much a diva song as anything Jacquie sang and yet it showed that there's a marked difference between just hitting the right notes and performing the song with your heart. It was a clear contrast between the two singers and allowed the audience to see how a song like that should be done. Also, the three songs Tessane sang were somewhat different from each other. "Try" was a bit rockish, they did an acoustic version of "Let it Be" with a little reggae thrown in and then a power ballad with "I Have Nothing." With Jacquie it was just power ballad after power ballad after power ballad. Yawn. And, though I have nothing against Will, he never made much of an impression on me and I was always a bit baffled that he was there.
Of the final three, Tessane was my favorite so I'm happy she won.

I totally think she deserved it. Jacquie relied on going BIG and LOUD and SCREAMY on every note possible. When she sang "Back to Black", I thought she was going to rupture something. There was no soul to it, no feeling, no shading, just BIG and LOUD and SCREAMY. Instead of singing like a depressed, wounded, heartbroken woman, she sounded like a hysterical girl. Tessanne, on the other hand, is the superior vocal talent. She has a fully mature voice and great control of her instrument. Now the question is whether this show can actually make their winner into a star.

Yeah, that's never a given with this show. Tessanne could have a quiet, Norah Jones type of career. It's possible, but not probable. Really, when it comes down to it I think The Voice provides a pretty wonderful experience for their contestants so that they can leave on a positive note having learned something about their talent and themselves rather than with bitterness and regret, unlike AI and X Factor, which play negative competitive reality show games that can leave a bad taste.
I think that's because when she tried with the acoustic version of Clarity, Jacquie sounded terrible. She doesn't have the range yet, technically or emotionally. I liked both Jacquie and Tessanne for the win, but when I saw them standing together my thought was "who needs this more? who will gain the most from the win?" and that's definitely Tessanne, so I'm glad she won.
