If you believe the rags and other celeb magazines, she's not. It sounds a lot like the terms of the divorce was that they both are completely cutoff from Tom and $cientology.

I think the terms of the divorce were that Katie called the shots on Suri’s education and religion, so Tom couldn’t get her involved in Scientology or enroll her in a Scientology school, but he had visitation rights. In the immediate wake of the divorce he made a big show of being seen with her, and even sued a tabloid who claimed he abandoned her (interestingly, during the deposition for that lawsuit, he admitted that Katie divorced him at least in part to protect Suri from Scientology). But word on the street is he eventually “disconnected” from her because Katie is now considered an SP (and Suri probably is too by extension).

I think Suri looks like her mother, but I can see how people see Tom because I’ve always thought Tom and Katie looked like they could be related.

Yeah, I think that is how it ultimately played out after the years passed.

Tom and Katie look a lot alike in their smile and eyes, which shows so much in Suri.

She did the fabled “Irish Exit” right. Her father lawyer in Toledo made it happen and that had to be with her input. She might come across as daft or ineffectual to others but not to me. What I read at the time is exactly that...Katie did not want Suri subjected to Scientology.

I remember when a phone conversation between him and Nicole Kidman was leaked. He accused her of cheating with Ewan McGregor while filming Moulin Rouge and other various and sundry allegations. It was at 10 years in, and they split shortly after. The scuttle but was that he made her sign an NDA or something, as she has never talked, but that he or his team leaked that call to denigrate her and allude that he was all golden.

This is second hand and I have no way of knowing whether this is true...a long time family friend has lived in SC forever. He has family there. My friend was dating his cousin at the time, after the split with Nicole. She said that the family want happy with him because he would not let Nicole see the children. This was back when Isabella and Connor were young.

There is no evidence of him seeing Suri in years. Go, Katie, for that.

Gosh, she looks so mature! The last time I really saw a picture of her was maybe two or three years ago. She was still wearing those big Jojo Siwa-type hair bows.

Remember: Tom sued In Touch for writing that he never saw Suri anymore, and Tom had to drop it because he was going to lose. The testimony was online at some point and confirmed that he hadn't seen her for a long time. IIRC the testimony went something like this:

In Touch: Have you seen Suri since you took her to Disneyland a year ago?
Cruise: I called her on the phone! I'm a good father! I'm in her life! She has my phone number!
In Touch: But you haven't seen her in a year, so what we wrote is true.
Cruise: You implied that I'm a bad father and I'm not!
In Touch: So you think you are a good father even though you haven't visited her in a year?

After the lawsuit brought it out in the open, I think Tom stopped even trying to maintain the pretense that he was still involved in her life.

Not the most reliable source, but Andrew Morton in his book said the costar Nicole kind of did have an inappropriate relationship with wasn't Ewan, but Iain Glen, who costarred with her in the play The Blue Room. Nicole invited Iain and his wife to celebrate New Year's Eve with she and Tom in Australia, which they did, and Nicole and Iain were openly flirtatious in a way that was not cool with either of their spouses. The Glens split up a while later. But even Morton says that was just a flirtation.

But every time I see Iain Glen now (usually when Tomb Raider is on TV), I think of the source in Morton's book who declared: "Iain Glen is a dick." I believe it.

When Tom and Nicole split it was entirely due to Scientology. She was about to get him out of the church so David Miscavige started feeding Tom false info about Nicole, including that she had an affair with Ewan McGregor and he was the father of the child she miscarried. Nicole had the baby’s DNA tested and proved Tom, not Ewan, was the father. Miscavige hated Nicole because of the influence she had over Tom, according to the book Going Clear by Lawrence Wright.

Tom, with the full power of the CoS behind him, went after Nicole in the press and tried to paint her as an adulterer. It wasn’t true. The divorce blindsided her. The church helped destroy her relationship with her older kids. Katie wised up and realized if she didn’t act, a divorce from Tom would go down exactly the same way and she’d lose Suri, so she did the blindsiding.

I wonder when it was that Katie "woke up" and realized this...before they married, or after? It's just so bizarre to me still.

I think Katie's father started building a case against Tom the very first time they met.

Katie is very fortunate that she came from a supportive family who were patient enough to wait until she realized that she needed their help.

I think she always had her doubts pretty early on. It seems like Tom probably caught her at a vulnerable time and love-bombed her and basically invaded all aspects of her life. At first she probably bought what he was selling. She was probably like, “Great! He’s totally crazy about me! This is an epic romance!” They got engaged after dating for only about two months. She was on a high, Scientology seemed interesting, she gave those batshit interviews where she was declaring her love for Tom while doing the splits.

But then shortly after the engagement, she started looking like dog shit - bags under her eyes, cold sore on her lip, she wore that coat that looked like a bathrobe all the time and Tom was dragging her around by the hand everywhere. She was pregnant by that point (through whatever means your tinfoil hat prefers). She probably started to notice that even though Tom was probably telling her he loved her and was crazy about her and their romance was epic, it all seemed awfully orchestrated by his team. This is probably when she was all, “Oh, fuck. What have I done?” You’d think she would have bolted at this point, but after watching stuff like “The Vow” and “Seduced” I’ve learned that often women will stick with these situations even after their bullshit detector goes off because they are already invested, they convince themselves it will get better, and the cult tells them those doubts they have are their own short-comings, not anything wrong with the cult. Basically, they negged her into staying.

She probably settled in like a good cult member, ignored the nagging doubts, used her new higher profile to launch her pet projects, used Tom’s ties to reintroduce herself as a triple-threat (remember when she tried to convince us she was an actor/singer/dancer and got that that embarrassing big production number on “So You Think You Can Dance” for, like, no reason and was so clearly the result of a favor to Tom?). Played nice so her Scientology babysitters would loosen the leash a bit. She probably just kept busy and only saw Tom as necessary. It was probably when she started to think about what Scientology would do to her kid that she woke up as Suri started approaching school age and realized Tom would put her in a Scientology school where she’d just get brainwashed and wouldn’t learn anything of value (watching Leah Remini’s show you heard that from several people who grew up in the cult and were educated by them - that their “education” wasn’t worth a damn and didn’t give them the skills they needed to make it in the real world).

Probably when she was ready to go, her family was ready to hit the ground running and it was a whole cloak and dagger situation where she had to establish residency in New York and her actual exit involved burner phones and ducking babysitters on a trip to China. Then immediately after she filed, Tom’s lawyers screamed about how they were going to move the divorce to California, where the laws would favor Tom, and then suddenly they shut up and granted Katie’s New York-based divorce in record time. I’m sure Katie’s family had amassed a mountain of dirt on Tom and figured out a way she could talk without Tom suing Katie for violating the NDA she no doubt signed.

I REALLY hope the story behind this comes out one day. It probably won’t happen while Tom is alive, but you know it must be a good story.
