And not to bring Matt Damon's smug ass into it, but putting more black/brown people behind the camera reflects on the black/brown people in front of it. I may have some issues with Tyler Perry's work, but he, Shonda Rhimes, Lee Daniels and Steve McQueen are helping to change the landscape and create the jobs that lead to award nominations.

Why are so many people feeling the need to crap all over Viola Davis's win? It was a totally deserved win and she didn't say anything in her speech that wasn't the truth. What gives?
At this point, it's a wonder she got through her speech at all without Kanye wrenching the mic out of her hand. Oy!

Seriously. I think a lot of people believe we've come further than we have, and so they expect winners to graciously acknowledge that... when that's not actually the case and no one is obligated to pretend that's true. So now her speech is this thing to be picked apart, and it's giving lots of celebs and other talking heads opportunities to sound clueless.

I didn't watch the awards show, but I must say that my visual of Kanye attempting to take the mic away from her is awesome. Could you imagine the beat down that Annalise Keating would give him?

Could you imagine the beat down that Annalise Keating would give him? Just with her eyes... What Whoopi and others do not understand is that before Kerry, what other mainstream network show had a black lead drama actress? That's what the opportunity thing means. While there have been several supporting black actresses, I cannot think of a single lead in my lifetime, and I'm 40. It's not like Kerry was the first black woman since Diahann Carroll in the '70s to be nominated for best actress at the Emmys. There have been tons of opportunities... Oh, wait... There was Taraji P. Henson on Person of Interest, who was so prominently featured in promotion for the show! Oh, wait... I could almost understand that coming from Raven-Symone, but Whoopi is 60 years old. She's been in the business for decades. She should know better.

SMH at Whoopi. She's an EGOT winner for crying out loud. Someone that talented should be having a Streep-level career, not hosting a middling daytime talk show. It is the lack of opportunity for older, black, women that has led her to where she is.

Adorbs! I didn't know she had a little one (I don't know much about her outside of her career).

Not enough 'thumbs up' in the world for this one! First, there is the adorable little girl. Then, the fact that said little girl is aware of how awesome her mother is. Finally, how humble Ms. Davis seems about it. Love it.

Heartmelting. From any other celebrity and it would have been try hard. Viola is too cool for that.
Her daughter is so cute.
