It's official: Series 6 will be the lastTo quote the Dowager Countess, "Oh, Thank God and Hallelujah!" I have some hope after the 5th series that they can wrap things up nicely for everyone. Characters can actually leave Downton for good, now. Maybe Edith can join Tom in America and set up a publishing empire.

Trailer for final seasonI'm guessing my hope that Bates is revealed as a serial murderer won't come true. How much you wanna bet that with Tom gone to America and Mary too busy trying to give boners to men she doesn't want Robert effs up the finances again so they have to move. Finally. So most of the staff decides to move on - Daisy heads to the farm like she should have long ago. Mrs. Patmore goes with her. For reasons. Carson and Mrs. Hughes get hitched and open their B&B. Thomas donks the new guy? Maybe? And Anna is finally free after her husband swings from the gallows in the public square for killing anyone who dared to cross him...oh, probably not. Damn. Edith looks like she as a moment of happiness, so you know the epilogue will be her losing everything and everyone she loves in the Blitz. Mary will find another man she will eventually hump to death. Moseley will hopefully find happiness with Baxter, but he's also a favorite punching bag, so he'll probably be pounding sand at the end. The Dowager Countess finds a way to become immortal, even outliving her BFF, Isobel.

I'm sure I saw Edith crying and panicking in the trailer, so yeah, not holding my breath for a happy ending for her. I know she's not even a great person but she's gone through enough to make up for her season 1 sins.
And yep, that looks an awful lot like packing up the place. I'm sure Robert will fuck up everything so they will lose Downton but in the end everybody will congratulate him on going with the times and they will happily move to London or something. That guy gets away with everything.

I'm guessing my hope that Bates is revealed as a serial murderer won't come true. This would be the best thing ever! My gosh, but I hate the saga of Anna & Bates. It's pretty impressive how Fellowes managed to take two characters I liked and rooted for and turned them into the part of the show I hate. Well, them & Edith's drama with her daughter. As always, I'll wait until it airs on PBS to watch it. I've managed to avoid spoilers every year, so I hope I'm able to do the same this year. As long as the US entertainment media doesn't report on the pirated stuff, I should be fine.

My gosh, but I hate the saga of Anna & Bates. It's pretty impressive how Fellowes managed to take two characters I liked and rooted for and turned them into the part of the show I hate. I know! I thought they were so adorable in season one, now I'm actively hoping that Bates is a murderer and that he gets caught and hanged. Anna isn't too bad, but Bates is the worst. I kinda laughed at the moment in the trailer when Anna says to Mary, "We've had some times, haven't we?" Like the time you helped her move a dead body so the world wouldn't know that she's a wanton Jezebel who just humped a man to death? Or the time she made you go buy a diaphragm for her so you would get slut-shamed at the druggist and not her? And then she made you hide it in your house once she was done using it so your crappy husband could find it and blow a fuse and maybe start thinking about murdering you because he thought you didn't want his little murderer babies? Or the time Mary tried to help you by hiding train tickets and crap because your husband is so clearly a murderer and she was trying to give him an alibi? Good times. Good times.

My family is placing odds on which beloved character will die this season. Is it Robert, who keeps holding his side and can no longer drink port? Violet, who must be pretty darn old by now? Anna, dying in childbirth?? We are watching on PBS's schedule, so wont find out for another week or two.

Gosh, I hope it's Daisy. I keep wanting to reach through the screen and throttle her.
For the most part, I'm enjoying this season and finding fewer things maddening. I do find it amusing to see Julian Fellowes teeing up some happy endings for folks.

I loved Gwen's return, and the reminder of what a good person Sybil was.

I loved Gwen's return, and the reminder of what a good person Sybil was. I agree. I felt a little teary while she was talking about Sybil.
