I can't be the only one who wants Tom and Mary to just kiss and end up together already can I? I doubt it's going to happen, but she has way more chemistry with him than Henry.
In other news, Maggie Smith looked so beautiful in this episode. They did her makeup differently and heavier on her eyelids and it made a huge change.

I love Tom so much that I may have developed a little crush on Allen Leech. Sigh, Tom.
I want Mary to let herself be happy, for chrissakes!

After this last ep (the last one of the regular season), I don't give a shit whether Mary finds happiness with Henry (with whom she has absolutely no chemistry)—her treatment of Edith was unforgivable. Actually, she and Carson can ride off into the sunset together, because his behavior has been pretty dreadful of late as well.

I think I "YES!"-ed out loud to Edith's "YOU'RE A BITCH!" That was a long time coming.
The whole hurried-wedding business was a bit much, but I loved this ep. Glad Thomas did not succeed.

I haven't seen it yet, but I loved a recap I read. It explicitly outlined how awful Mary was, and I found myself justifying her actions. What does that say about me?

I was glad to see people finally call Mary on her shit. I like Mary, and I like that Fellowes allows his heroine to be a bitch, but it always bugged me that no one ever called her on it outside of an affectionate chiding from Matthew. The closest we got was when Mary was frequently and loudly snorting over Edith for daring to show emotions after getting confirmation that Michael was dead and not just missing (after she herself locked herself in her room after Matthew's death and refused to wear anything other than her widow's weeds well past the accepted mourning time and said dramatic stuff like "Oh, George. Poor little orphan" while everyone was all, "Uh, he still has a mother."). Then the DC told her (basically) that shitting all over your mourning sister all the time and in public is just as gross as the emotional overreaction you accuse her of having.
The act itself was heinous, then she had the balls to go to Edith and try to be all, "How was I supposed to know you hadn't told him about Marigold" as if being all "Gee, Bertie, now nice of you to overlook Edith's past of donking a dude out of wedlock and the bastard child she's got in tow as a result" at the breakfast table wouldn't have been rude and tacky in the extreme even if she had confirmation that he already knew. And when Edith was all, "Nope. Not buying it, bitch" Mary again had the balls to be all, "Look here, you pathetic..." I was so glad Edith cut her off with a rather decisive "YOU'RE A BITCH." That and Tom calling her out on being a bully was years in the making.
Now can someone do that to Carson? He's been intolerable all season. I used to totally ship him and Mrs Hughes, but now I just fear Mrs Hughes has made a huge mistake and has signed up for years of misery.

The smackdowns from Tom & Edith were beautiful, but of course, Mary still had her happy ending with Henry. She and Carson really are two peas in a pod; no wonder they're so fond of each other. When Thomas looked so grim walking down the hallway, I knew what was going to happen, but I was still teary about the whole situation. For someone who's been a villain for most of the series, I've really come to care about that character. I must admit, when they said "on the series finale of Downton Abbey," I felt a bit wistful. As much as many of the characters have annoyed me over the years (and I've never liked Mary), I'm going to miss them.

Oh my God, I loved the scene between Mary and Edith. I love Mary though I think that's more due to Michelle Dockery's unapologetic way of playing her more hideous character traits. When Mary's a bitch, she really goes for it, there's no sugarcoating. But boy, did I cheer for Edith when she called her out. And Branson is just the best brother these girls never had.
