I read on TWOP that Don Philip came out to everyone/Britney during his audition (apparently LA Reid kept goading him, saying he had "a secret") and was crying because when they were touring together he was afraid she wouldn't be accepting of his sexuality, and so that was why he was so emotional. Of course, classy Fox decided to edit that out. *eye roll* Wow. But I see why they edited it out, so the show wasn't accused of goading someone into coming out and exploiting that for ratings. Don Philip's behavior makes a lot more sense now.

I think he was thrown out there as a direct slap to Christina who didn't recognize the old mouseketeer last season. Who knows if Britney even remembered him, or if they told her what was coming. I saw a clip of her on the red carpet where someone asked if she met anyone she had known before, and she said no! She's hanging by a thread.
I hate the loud audience in the back and all the stupid reaction shots. That always stopped me from getting into AGT, and I see that's a Simon produced show as well. Simon is like a mad genius, though. Drag this trainwreck gal along for the ride, bill her as the big star over even you, and at least some people are watching. I still prefer the quiet fawning that The Voice judges do over this extreme hyperbole.

I watched this is a little bit out of curiosity. After about 10 minutes I was done. I tuned in when the woman who played the character of 'the girl who thinks she's hot' was auditioning. Did I just tune in at a bad time? Cause the glaring and snickering and the "ooh, let's see this girl who thinks she's hot (how DARE she!!) be embarrassed by the audience and judges criticism" storyline was painful to watch. I feel like I was supposed to excitedly imagine this woman who dared to think she was hot crying herself to sleep that night, but since I'm a grown up I could give a shit if another woman is delusional when she looks in the mirror.
Funny thing is, I had switched to X Factor after just having watched The Voice episode on my DVR that had a contestant just like her, so the contrast between the shows was more obvious. While X Factor went with the mean girl middle school attitude, The Voice just let this woman do her thing with the judges giggling about how Cee Lo will have his hands full in dealing with her. The audience knows there will be a little schaden in the future when this woman eventually receives some honest criticism. No need to hammer it home like we're 10 and have never seen a reality show before.

I watched it for the first time just to see Bitty Spears. There's something so sad about her eyes. It's like she's just hanging on by a thread.
Other impressions: I hate the editing. I wanted them to slow it the hell down. Demi Lovato and Simon have a cute dynamic. It's almost fatherly. She was lusting after that group of doofusy boys (who surprisingly ended up being good) and Simon shut her down good naturedly.
Simon still makes every show he's on. He's a real star IMO.
The show is uncomfortably maudlin. So many shots of weepy people and so many cheap displays of emotion. It felt very exploitative and tacky. I was tweeting at the same time and was amazed by all the people on my TL weeping right along with the show. It felt uncomfortable to me.

Usually a few of the acts are surprisingly good, but I have to fast-forward through all the embarrassing stuff. I hate that crap.

Mr. carrier76 put this on the other day (like many of you, just so we could see Britney). I came in the room in time for the Jillian Jensen part. I thought that whole thing was...staged? I don't know. I rolled my eyes and left the room right after she started singing and Mr. carrier76 told me I had no heart. Which, maybe that's a little true. I just sometimes feel like people throw out the "I WAS BULLIED" sob story a little too freely these days, 1, and 2, it felt like a cheap move to make everyone feel sorry for her and love her singing, which in my opinion, wasn't that great.

Yeah, it's getting old. Having been bullied has practically become a status symbol, and it seems like true victims are being drowned out by a bunch of whiners! (sometimes I'm a grumpy old man)

Exactly. I also read an article on MSNBC that the reason she got "bullied" was that on her first day of school in a new school, she said she saw a boy with a bag of white powder and reported him to the principal. Everyone turned on her? I also read that she was a child beauty pageant contestant and that she has been singing backup for Nicole Scherzinger (sp?) I'll try to find the article to link to it. Linky.I was amused to see that there is a typo in that article that says the boy in question was carrying a bag of "white power." Which, that is a whole other problem altogether.
