I watch a ton of Horror movies/ TV Shows and I instantly decided that Twisty Clown guy was most f'ed up scary ass thing I'd ever laid eyes on. Forget all the folks he's killing. He could just stand there and induce nightmares. I don't know if there's an Emmy for Make-Up, but whoever designed that freaky ass things should get an award hands down! CGI Emmy's? Maybe not so much. Sarah Paulson's heads don't quite work... although, to be fair, I'm not sure how well anyone could pull off such an effect and make it 100% belivable- beyond hiring conjoined twins. Hey, I'll give it to the CGI department for doing their best, though. I mean, it's still kinda wonky looking, but worlds beyond Rosie Grier and Ray Milland sharing a giant sweater. Beyond that, so far I'm liking it. I don't know what the overall plot will be (or if there will be one). But all AHS shows have always sucked me into whatever world they created and hooked me to the end so I'm ready for the ride! That said, I didn't get Jessica Lange's switch from French to German accent. Unless she was presenting herself as French to the candy striper, guard and Dot/Bette because it was so soon after WWII and folks were more twitchy about Germans. When Evan Peters was strutting around like James Dean but with leather mittens, I figured he'd be the Side Show's Lobster Boy. But he turned out to be Edward Penishands. That's... well... yeah... And I'm so zeroed in on the Freak Show/Side Show theme that when Jessica Lange was doing laundry with the little little person and then this tall man came up to speak to her... I instantly thought 'Oh, there's the Tall Man.' And kept thinking that for a lot longer than it should have taken me to realize that he was just the landlord who happened to be taller than the other people in the scene. And yeah, admitting that makes me blush deeper than watching the Tupperware/Freak Gigalo Party scene did. Not sure what that says about me. Other than... yeah, I'm in for the long haul on this one! :-)!! Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention. Did anyone else notice Pepper in some of the background shots? Ha! Let's see, Asylum was all in the 60's right? So I guess this is a prequel to Asylum. I wonder if it'll end with poor Pepper getting hauled away... where she meets a spank happy nun, a falsely accused serial killer and a falsely imprisoned Lesbian reporter who all happen to look just like her old pals from the Freak Show. Hee! ETA: OOH! I had a Eureka! moment this morning and finally figured out Kathy Bates accent! She's totally channeling John Travolta as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray!... Now if anyone could just figure out what kind of accent John Travolta was doing in that role...

I think you found your answer, GirlyGhoul! I read somewhere that Kathy Bates' accent is supposed to be from Baltimore. She's going for the John Waters exaggerated one because the accent was supposedly thicker back in the day. Paying customers? Hell, if I went to this carnival, I'd turn tail and run the minute I saw that giant devil head entranceway!! I'd pay them to let me leave! I agree with whoever said more Twisty. Gah. Horrific make-up. As GG said give that person some kind of award. The three little sprigs of hair is my favorite touch. *shudder* The most disturbing thing on the whole show, however, was that flickery old school sex tape with the candy striper (aka Meryl Streep's daughter). I did a rewatch because I got interrupted several times when I watched this live, but I had to fast forward the carny porn the second time through! Could not watch that again! The two-headed character is interesting, especially since there appears to be the set up for what may become a truly bizarre love triangle, but it also reads a bit like the Sarah Paulson Emmy reel. I love Jessica Lange, but the Elsa character seems like a bit of a retread at this point. JL has done the faded glamour thing twice before with Constance in Murder House and Fiona in Coven, and even a little bit in Asylum with Judy red dress. The Dietrich burn book is hilarious, though. "Zey paid her $200,000 to take a hot sh*t all over zat movie!" Best line of the night for me! ETA: I hope they use these anachronistic campy musical numbers sparingly because (1) I agreed with Frances Conroy's assessment, and (2) I had Life on Mars stuck in my head for days after watching this!

I watched this, and liked it. It was the first AHS season I've seen, so I can't compare it to others, but I thought Jessica Lange's character was very creepy, more so than clown guy. The leg revelation took me by surprise. I think it'll turn out she was a surviver of experiments by Joseph Mengele or something similar.

I don't want to know what that was behind Twisty's mouth. I don't. I don't. I don't.
What would be the medical diagnosis today for Meep's condition? Such a sad ending.
I still love "Criminal".

I liked this episode better than last weeks.Clowns don't scare me but I can see why others are scared of them. The poor clown doesn't know he met his match in the weird rich kid.I felt bad for Meep but that's what you get for biting off head of birds.

Good job, Dandy's Mom! You raised a boy so freaky he unsettles the Killer Clown! Here's hoping Patty LaBelle gives her two weeks notice before anything gets too cray cray in Dandy Land.
And even though Dandy is definetly the freakiest freak who ever freaked... Clown man is still the most visually messed up thing on the block. I was totally braced for anything to pop out at poor doomed coffee boy as he dumbly followed the trail of blood... and that dang clown standing between the other two STILL got a jump out of me. I felt like the two Halloween cats behind him. MeeeeeeOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!! Really could have done without seeing under his mask as well. Seriously. Not something I needed stored in my subliminal consciousness. Watch that shit come popping back at me when I'm chilling in the old folks home years from now. Thanks a bunch Ryan Murphy!
I gotta admire poor kidnapped girl though. 50's poodle skirt and all she was plucky and forward enough to swipe her own rubbers from the drug store and resourceful enough to whack the Killer Clown with a board and briefly escape. I'd like to think she'll manage to make it out of this in one piece... But now she's also the captive of Dandy Douchebag and he has a crystal baby bottle and always gets his way. Sigh! Good luck with that Plucky Forward Thinking 50's Girl!
I'm not fond of the Strongman and his bully boy ways... But this show has already made multiple references to Tod Browning's Freaks... and the Strongman didn't come to a good end in that one so hopefully he'll get his soon enough. Poor Meep! I was really hoping he could use his Geek biting skillz for protection in the clink but I guess he was outnumbered. Poor little guy. Framing the Strongman with the badge was a pretty good idea though. Too bad it backfired on Edward Penishands and now he's gotten a buddy killed. Poor Overdramatic Shouty Penishands. Show of (non-penis) hands who thinks the Strongman will turn out to be his daddy?
Not so poor Elsa though. Her ego's a bit much to stomach. So Dot n Bette's awesome Fiona Apple performance got better reviews than your David Bowie bit. Let Ma Petite literally play you the World's Smallest Violin! Get over it! It's cool enough you both have the ability to sing songs decades before they're actually written! I don't think getting the twins to stab each other is a good idea since it was established early on they share a circulatory system. You're down a chicken chomping geek and Dot n Bette's the best attraction you've got. (Sorry Angela Bassett's boobs.... but its true!)
All that said, I'm enjoying this for the most part... But I think so far it's my least favorite of the AHS's. It seems to be taking them much longer to establish anything resembling a plot and they've already kind of boxed themselves in with their theme. They all live at the carny. The towns folks mostly hate and mistrust them and aren't filling up the audience very fast. Elsa's ready to sabotage her Star Attraction and is already under Strongman's thumb and his wife's extra boob. The Killer Clown and Dandy are having their mayhem spree which dummy after dummy keeps stumbling into (They've already had a Dumb Milkman, a Dumb Coffee Boy... now they just need a Dummy delivering Sweet n Low)... Where can it go from here? A whole show dedicated to Pepper finally getting her meatloaf?

Watched the latest episode around 9 last night. And woke up around 3 this morning, convinced that Killer Clown was standing over my bed. I actually slept with my lamp on for the rest of the night. I haven't been scared to the point of needing a "night light" since I was 10. Why do I have the feeling that Dandy is actually going to be more terrifying than the clown?
Hahahaha! I was thinking the same thing. Patti, you in danger, girl.

Show of (non-penis) hands who thinks the Strongman will turn out to be his daddy? It's already been established in the episode that Strongman is Daddy and Bearded Lady is Mommy. The family that freaks together...

The clown's still there. Dandy's still an ever lovin' manace to all that is good, decent and Patti LaBelle... But for me the scariest scene this week was Dot's dream of ridding herself of Bette's pesky head. Bette's utter helplessness and terror at knowing not only did her sister want her dead- but that there were people willing to make it happen disturbed me worse than anything the Clown or Dandy have come up with so far. The fact that Dot was so deeply enjoying her dream even as Bette sobbed over her 'nightmare' made it that much more chilling. I mean- family often sucks in general- but to be literally stuck with a sister who not only doesn't like you but openly wants you dead and there's not a whole heck of a lot you can do about it... I just... Hey, Clown, take your mask off! The site of your gaping maw would actually be soothing compared to witnessing poor Bette's dilema! Yikes!
And Elsa/ Jessica Lange needs to perform every episode. She's truely fabulous. And Two Faced Edward's kinda sexy... Well, his front half is at least. He's kinda like the Candyman (sans hookhand and troublesome bees) all 'Be my Victim' polite about the whole messy busniess of slaughtering human beings who just made the oopsie of conjuring him. I mean, someone's going to die... But they get to hear their killer's dulcet toned voice and courtly manners before they bite it- so that's something. I wonder who it'll be!
But BLAH! I really still can't stand Emma Roberts! She's so bland and stiff in her acting. Very annoying. Although she at least brought Denis O'Hare onto the scene with her- And he at least is as delightful in everything he does as she is dull. That said... ok, I know we're not going to get to see what 'Thor' saw once Mr. O'Hare's drawers got dropped... But dang it, I really wished 'Thor' would have described it. Now I'm ever so curious and wishing this show was on HBO or Showtime instead of FX... 'Cause... well yeah... I'm super curious as to what exactly is going on down there with Mr. O'Hare. Possibly that erm... 'Third Leg' that gets hinted at in the credits. Or possibly the 'sword' or 'hammer' he alluded to when he was teasing 'Thor'. But yeah. If anyone must know, I spent a heck of a lot more time pondering what we weren't being shown than was maybe healthy on my part.
Between that and worrying WAAAAAY too much about the demise of someone's CGI head, I need to remember not to watch AHS right before bedtime.
That and I also want Patti LaBelle to beat Dandy to death with his own crystal baby bottle. How dare he threaten the Godmother of Soul and rip off Halloween while doing so!
