Usually it's a contractual obligation to do whatever publicity and appearances the producers have deemed necessary.

I don't even think she looks that gloomy. Most people have a thing that they do on the red carpet. Either a pose or a smile or some other cheesy affectation. Most women smile or do a happy/fun/sexy "beam" of some sort. Rooney's doing the "mostly blank stare" look. It's a choice that is more common with men, but it's a popular red carpet affectation, too.

I feel like it's beyond Blank Stare, though, and has depths of hopelessness to it that are supposed to make you think she's Deep and Above It All. It's so teen goth it makes me laugh. The Mara's can just go home now. I'm done.

It's her posture and demeanor too. When I saw her on TV on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, the camera cut to her and she was hunched over like an Olsen twin in that black cape and she looked like a really thin grim reaper. I laughed out loud.

You just want to say to her, "You're a movie star, darling! Enjoy it!"

When will "band-aid" stop being a popular color on the runway? That dress could be so much better in a jewel-tone or even a pastel or funky yellow.

I guess the BAFTA's are as depressing to Rooney as the SAG Awards. When will "band-aid" stop being a popular color on the runway? That dress could be so much better in a jewel-tone or even a pastel or funky yellow. Her stylist intentionally limits her to only three colors: black, white, and that band-aid color. I read about this in a fashion magazine as if it was an act of genius. (Occasionally - like once a year - she'll wear a really bold color to shake things up.)

Ug. I can get behind black and white, but the ubiquitous (white people) flesh dress is starting to really annoy me. They just make me start imagining what color would have worked better.

That dress looks ill-fitting.
