Ugh, yes. I see the commercials and hit mute. Really terrible timing.

She seems nice enough so I feel bad for her that someone decided it would be good to release a politically themed movie so close to the end of a divisive presidential campaign season. I physically recoil every time an ad for Miss Sloan comes on. If I spend money to see a movie, especially lately, it's gonna be to escape reality, thank you very much. I would guess they were anticipating a Clinton win. I can totally empathize with the escapist mentality. The election coupled with Glenn's death have made me an eager part of the "Walking Dead" exodus, but, for anyone willing to listen, I have to play a bit of Jessica's Advocate. I read that producing a movie written by Danai Gurira (coincidentally, best known for her role on "Walking Dead".) If you look at Jessica's IMDB profile, you'll notice that she works with an unusually high proportion of female writers and directors. Other than maybe Reese Witherspoon, I can't really think of another top actress for whom this is the case. I'm not saying that you should support a crappy film just because the lead actress works with women on other projects, but I do feel like the culture has moved to a place within the last few weeks where "progressive" and "diversity" are now negative things. I feel like I'm going to be extra vigilant about supporting people and projects that are making efforts to move the conversation in ways I'd like to see it go.

I guess Jessica really wants to change things where she can but I'm also guessing that it will become increasingly difficult in the next few years. Women and minorities in the US won't be supported or respected by the president and his government so why should anybody else do so? So yeah, go Jessica :-)

She's an outspoken feminist and works with female directors often. I don't know much about the movie she has coming out, but I am good with political movies right now. All the President's Men was on HBO the other night and it actually got me fired up.

I thought she was overrated until I saw Crimson Peak and realized she earns her paycheck - she was deliciously over the top and out-acted everybody else, including Guillermo del Toro's Gothic sets. Mad respect for her speaking out on the Bertolucci/Brando/Schneider Last Tango ick: Is it rape if you're acting?. Reading the comments section on other versions of this article will make you question your sanity on what is reality and what isn't.

What total scumbags both Brando and Bertolucci were. There wasn't enough compensation for that type of action. Ugh.
19 years old? I would kill someone if they did something like this to my daughter when she's nineteen.

What pisses me off the most about the Bertolucci thing is that the VICTIM had been saying what happened for decades and nobody really cared. People only believe it if the perpetrator himself feels like admitting it.

So yeah, go Jessica :-) Meh, Clinton had zero respect for women and I don't recall anyone reacting by saying "I'm not going to respect women because the President doesn't." The true horror is that Maria died somewhat young and nobody listened to her saying numerous times that she was violated when she filmed Last Tango in Paris.

Even if you agree with the first part of this, Clinton's election wasn't framed as the silent majority of America rejecting progressive values. Right in the comments section of the article americanchai linked to, you have a poster who claims to be anti-Trump arguing that Schneider's experience isn't really rape and that this type of "fake hysteria" is why the election turned out the way it did.

I'm asking myself why did I bother reading the comments. *headdesk*I like that Howard Dean went on the record with a comment as well.
