Thing is, Sherlock and Moriarty have totally different builds; besides height, Sherlock seems to be 90% legs.

True but he has morgue worker Molly as an accomplice. It's doubtful anyone will question her word. The police will be too glad the Sherlock Holmes problem resolved itself and John would never question Molly. That's why she's the perfect accomplice. I do think Molly could unwittingly cause John to start to wonder about Sherlock's death though. It's for me to imagine John swinging by the hospital to see her since he seemed to like her. He may even feel that she would need support because of her Sherlock crush. Molly has a good heart so she wouldn't turn him away. But I don't think she would be the best liar. Her body language and tone might eventually get John to wondering if perhaps if she's hiding something. You've got to be kidding me.

Yeah, a successful movie franchise and popular British series isn't enough. They've got to cram one more onto the band wagon. But, as someone on ONTD pointed out, it's on CBS -- so while you won't get any gay subtext, you'll get plenty of boob and fart jokes (with a sprinkling of racism!).

And you know they are going to act like this is a totally original concept and pretend BBC's Sherlock doesn't exist. "Ours is different because he's American! And it's in NYC! Totally original!" Someone at Deadline pointed out that CBS already has a Sherlock Holmes Show. It's called The Mentalist. The poster has a point!

Oh come on, they'd never turn a brilliant British show into americanized crap. I mean just look at the fantastic job they did with Life On Mars especially that first pilot for it where they took all the stuff that made the original great and flushed it straight down the toi...oh wait...never mind.

I'm one of the very few people who thought the "Life on Mars" transplant was no less successful than "The Office" transplant or the "Shameless" transplant. But Holmes is different, iconic. And "Sherlock" was created by two guys who're giant, freakin' Sherlock Holmes fanboys who love the originals more than their own spouses. The CBS hacks love getting any show they can on television. The difference will show.

I thought the American version of Sherlock Holmes was "House, M.D."...
Thing is, there is already a huge number of Sherlock Holmes adaptations in popular media. The Rathbone/Brett/RDJ/Cumberbatch versions are only scratching the surface quite frankly. A new version isn't as bandwagon-ish as you may think.
One thing that is kind of amusing about all of this is the fact that Edgar Allan Poe is credited as the inventor of the detective story, and was so renowned for it that there is actually a conversation in "A Study in Scarlet" where Holmes pretty much cuts off Watson mid-sentence and says, "Yeah, yeah, I might *sound* like Dupin, but I am *so* not...."

I actually liked the American "Life on Mars" too bstewart. Was it as good as the original? No, but it wasn't horrible either. I'm still trying to forgive Hugh Jackman for attempting to Americanize Viva Blackpool though.
Exactly. The love Gatiss and Moffat have for Sherlock Holmes is obvious in their adaptation. They clearly put a ton of thought in how to modernize Holmes without losing that original Holmes flavor. The iconic quotes are worked in without sticking out like a sore thumb. Plus, the casting for Holmes and Watson is perfect! No way will CBS put that much time and effort into their version.

They'll get Coco-Cola as a sponsor and include plenty of shots of Sherlock downing it when he's frustrated.
