I agree that the leads are perfectly cast and playing their roles very well. Freeman is the perfect everyman -- good looking but not too handsome, fit but doesn't have a spectacular body, etc., and willing to step back to the sidelines while Sherlock does his thing. Meanwhile, BC is tall, thin, and a bit unusual-looking, so even before Sherlock opens his mouth and shows how brilliant/arrogant/rude he is, he's already the one you're looking at when those two walk into the room. For those like me who like to find out where props and clothing come from, this is a fun tumblr to go through. It makes sense that Irene would have a cell phone that costs over $26K, but how did Sherlock get a replica? Does he have some trust fund we don't know about? I also learned that Mycroft carries a $364 umbrella (makes sense) and John wears a $300 coat (doesn't make sense).

A lot of BBC series have some awesome costume department, because I've seen countless of Bellstaff jackets and coats. The prices of those are just ridiculous, eg. Sherlock's coat.

Yeah, for 1,300 pounds, any item of clothing better do stuff right out of Batman and/or James Bond.

Yeah, I love the costumes--but how does John Watson afford his clothes on an army pension? Did he finally force Sherlock to start charging?

Forget the clothes, what about paying for all of those cabs that they take all over London?

Forget the clothes, what about paying for all of those cabs that they take all over London? I know! When John took a cab out to the boomerang case (which was out in who knows where), I couldn't believe it. I got the impression that John has convinced Sherlock to take money for his cases (since it seems they are collecting more clients who aren't just the police), but Sherlock still must be sitting on a mighty big trust fund or Mycroft gives him an assload of money. It's the nature of TV and all that, but it is pretty amazing when someone doesn't take money for his services yet wears an $11,000 watch. And I laughed at an item on that tumblr page I linked to earlier that had a quote from the costume designer on the show who said that her budget was tight and she could "only" afford the 400 pound silk bathrobe for Sherlock, rather than the cashmere one she really wanted that cost over 1,000 pounds. That must be an awesome job.

Trying to find explanations for stuff is always fun. I figured that Irene's complete lack of birthmarks was due to her hopping into a big vat of Dermablend before Sherlock showed up. Probably via fireman's pole a la Adam West-era Batman.

I have to admit that the normally-fun Gawker comments on "Downton Abbey" are currently featuring a lot of swipes at "Downton and other period shows like Sherlock" and "I watched Season One of Sherlock and suffered through Season Two, too" make me check to see if I'm on YouTube.

I didn't realize that "period" and "British" meant the exact same thing.
Whatevs, gawker posters. Despite my whining and disappointment over some factors of the last episode, it's still a really, really entertaining show, and you really can't ask for much more than that.

"British" and "Period" AREN'T the same thing? Since when? No, I like this show, and even with my whining about the case last week I was pretty entertained. Hell, even if the show was John, Sherlock, and their antics (no cases), they're both so well written that I'd be entertained.
