Re: the Moriarty clip... Seven Days....That was an amazing episode; the hound as well as big reference to "The Adventure of the Devil's Foot" with everyone trippin' balls out on the moors. I am also totally in love with Mark Gatiss' brain right now for the memory palace references. It is a memory training technique that goes way back; one of the leading texts on the subject was by Frances Yates, and is sitting on my bookshelf right now. Makes me wonder if the weird decorating in 221B is a sign that the living room is the template Sherlock's memory palace. The trick is to imagine a room with really distinctive features so they stick in your mind. The skull print, the cow skull with headphones thing between the windows, the things he has on his walls in his bedroom.

I quite loved it, unsurprisingly, and am glad Episode 2 wasn't a dip in storytelling as was the first series'. Not enough Moriarty, not enough Mycroft and, on a shallower note, not enough suntanned Rupert Graves and DEFINITELY not enough Bearded Simon Paisley Day.
But everything else was almost note-perfect and, really, is there any man on television who does Agonized Shrieking better than Russell Tovey (to whom I pledge unending adoration)? I'm always taken aback when television can elicit spine-tingles but this one delivered several.
I could also have used more Amelia Bullmore, who was so awesome on "Suburban Shootout". But that's a minor quibble. Kudos, Mark Gatiss.

Yeah, Tovey's a shrieker... Even though he's probably well over a foot taller than I am, I always get seized with the need to scoop him up and tell him everything will be OK when he plays a character on the verge of completely freaking out.
Also loved the fact that they just had Sherlock strolling through the London Tube with a big honking harpoon and covered with gore, apropos of diddly-squat.
Am I the only person here who can't wait for next week, but am giving serious thought to only watching it after finding out if there is a 3rd season?

Loved it! Bloody, harpoon carrying Sherlock on the tube! The glowing bunny. Inhaling as Kevin smoked. Sherlock attempting to apologize. The mind palace. Funny stuff, but OMG, I was sufficiently freaked out. When the HOUND came to Kevin's house, I jumped. And I knew it was a hallucination, but damn...that doctor was evil. Poor Kevin. He was losing his mind.
Sherlock is a crap friend and a mean addict. I had my suspicions they were being drugged, but that sealed it for me. Although he was under the influence, his mind still functioned. Of course, he'd find nothing wrong with drugging John to experiment on him. Of course.
What was going on in the final scene? That was Moriarity, right? Why did Mycroft have him locked up? Why did he let him out?

This is the ONE thing I hate about the 3 episode season, it just started and now it's almost done. Boo!

I know, right? It is almost a parody of how much shorter TV seasons are in the UK than here in the US.
I just have the sinking feeling that the season finale is going to leave me in a bigger bucket of tears than Children of Earth did. I am going to declare my wussiness right now and state that I'll only watch it after they announce a third series or not.
What is amazing about that is the fact that it has been over a century since "The Final Problem" was published, and I'm in 2012 having the same reaction that ACD's fans had at the time.
That, and Andrew Scott's Big Puppy Eyes of Utter Depravity are just plain chilling.

I liked this episode. And it sort of really drove home what I like about the show, even when they screw up things: Sherlock drugging John and sending him into all that terror. It's exactly something this version of Holmes would do. And the show doesn't shy away from that to make him somehow fluffier. He's really that much of a jerk. Yes, he's shifting and changing somewhat, but the baseline he's starting with is terrifying. And it gave Freeman the opportunity for some brilliant acting. I was terrified right with John and also really, really feeling for him.
And another check for the "no vanity acting" thing I mentioned earlier in this thread: Sherlock can be a consummate overactor. And he was in a manic frenzy at the beginning. When does "character overacting" cross into "plain old overacting"? I think BC did here and there in "Hounds", but I'm not miffed at all because that's the danger of throwing yourself into it like that. There seems to be absolutely no hesitation on his part about this, he'll look as silly and obnoxious as Sherlock's mood requires. I don't know why I find this as awesome as I do, but there it is...

One signifier that this show has affected my DNA is that I oscillate between disappointment and delight that Watson and Lestrade explicitly acknowledged Holmes' Aspergers. On one hand I liked the is he/isn't he nature of this incarnation and on the other I enjoy that while Sherlock may be the smartest man in the room (except maybe Mycroft) the others in the room are nonetheless very smart, too.

In the commentary track to "A Study in Pink", Gatiss and Moffat talk about their decision to make Watson and Lestrade characters who are skilled and competent, stating that it wouldn't make sense for someone like Sherlock to work with clueless people simply for the sake of making him look smarter. That, and I personally like the character type of "Badass Normal" in fiction as well. Anyone here think that some of next week will involve word getting out that Sherlock was responsible for Bond Air getting scrubbed? Forget the fall, how are the writers going to bail him out of a treason charge? Trailer for next week

Discovered this show a few days ago and absolutely love it!
Cumberbatch and Freeman play very well off each other! I like that this Sherlock can every now and then giggle at the absurdity of the situations he finds himself in. I mean, you kinda have to laugh at being naked at Buckingham Palace while your older brother begs you to put your clothes on!
I didn't get the last scenes in the last two episodes. Did Sherlock text something that somehow quite literally saved Irene's neck? And what was with Mycroft letting Moriarity out? I just don't believe Mycroft would do anything that would harm Sherlock. They don't have the best relationship but Mycroft seems to sincerely love him and even though Sherlock would never admit it he does care about Mycroft I think.
It seems there's only three people in the world Sherlock can sincerely connect with-- John, Mrs. Hudson, and Mycroft. So, he's not a sociopath though I do find Sherlock's diagnosis of himself rather amusing.
ETA: Oh was I the only one that kept expecting Henry to turn into a werewolf thanks to Being Human? Just me? Ok then!
