I think you guys have spotted How They Did It, and would add that after the nonconsenting drug experiment from last week, Watson might also have been dosed by the bicycle assailant to render him unable to properly identify the corpse, too. Perhaps Irene Adler, with her history of corpse-and-record-swapping, either assisted with or was inspiration for the ruse?

I know! It's so flipping frustrating that the show is over already!

I think he may have too. And when he was directing John to keep his eyes up on him, Molly was down below on the ground setting something up.
I don't know if John was drugged or not. It seemed like he got a bump on the head and that would be enough to disorient him temporarily.

That fits, too, but Holmes did establish a precedent for dosing last ep. It's the fall itself that's the mystery. Paging David Blaine!
I take that back. Paging Penn Gillette!

My favorite speculation by way of LiveJournal
Also just figured out that the music playing in the Triple Heist sequence at the beginning was Rossini's The Thieving Magpie. Real subtle there, Jimmy. Actually kind of disappointed that he didn't switch his ringtone to "Don't Fear the Reaper (MOAR COWBELL!!! Remix) " at the very end.

When Sherlock and Molly were talking, did it seem like he was saying she had dated Moriarty in the past? I was watching it while doing something else so I might have misunderstood...
ETA: der. I should learn to connect one show with the next.

When Sherlock and Molly were talking, did it seem like he was saying she had dated Moriarty in the past? I was watching it while doing something else so I might have misunderstood... Yes - in the last episode of last season, Molly introduced the new guy she'd been dating, "Jim from IT [department]" -- who was, of course, Moriarty. He was only using Molly to get an opportunity to get close to Sherlock. Painful scene - Molly was clearly parading him around both in an effort to show that she'd moved on/was desirable and as an effort to get a reaction out of Sherlock. Sherlock declared Jim gay immediately (Out loud. Like he does). And Jim confirmed it by mooning over Sherlock and leaving him his phone number. Poor Molly left deeply humiliated. As usual. ETA: Was it just me, or did it look like John's limp was back when he walked away from Sherlock's grave? Also, maybe there is something to the drugged theory. When they first showed the body on the ground I thought the hair was too straight to be Sherlock's and we didn't really see Sherlock's face there until John ran up. Maybe he was drugged and saw what he expected to see.

Just finished watching the episode! What a finale!
I knew there was no way Sherlock was dead but man Martin Freeman had near ugly crying at the Sherlock's grave! And yes I do think he was limping at the site. I guess it's a symbolism to show that Sherlock had become John's crutch.
Obviously Molly was involved and I don't think the biker hitting John was a coincidence. I'm definitely interested in how exactly he pulled it off though. That body got there somehow and there's no way Sherlock could have thrown it off. Is it possible several of the hospital staff were involved?
I'm really interested in John's reaction when he finds out Sherlock is alive. He'll definitely be thrilled but it would be understandable if he was hurt and angry as well. I wonder if perhaps John will realize it on his own that he's alive. It's perfectly plausible that John will want to prove Sherlock was the real deal and perhaps in the process realize Sherlock faked his death.
I can't be the only one that's looking forward to Sherlock smugly calling Donovan a moron to her face once he proves he's the real deal.

I've noticed that there seems to be no mention of Moriarty's death. On John's blog there's a video of a newscast talking about Sherlock's death, and while it mentioned Moriarty's trial, there was no mention of finding his dead body of the roof. So either that was his body on the pavement or he also faked his death. I hope that isn't the case because one faked death is enough, and while I think it can be boring when the hero wins all the time, I like that this "win" cost Sherlock pretty dearly.

yeah, LittlestCatHead speculated that it was Moriarty's body on the sidewalk there.
