It looks pretty awesome and Charlize is a real badass. Shame about Kristen Stewart.

Does anyone know where this sudden surge in rejigging classic fairytales came from? We have this movie, Mirror Mirror, and Malifecent coming in theatres, plus Once Upon a Time and Grimm on TV. In all cases, it appears they are taking a classic tale and telling it in a different way. It just seems odd that all of these turn up at the same time.

There was a flurry of it in the early 90s, too, Mugsy, from a feminist angle. Now it seems to be a bit more from a postmodern bent.

That does look awesome. And I'm glad that they seem to be referring to both inner and outer beauty because while Kristen Stewart is a very pretty girl...dude. It's Charlize.
Stewart may be pretty but she can't do an interview for shit. She and Charlize were on the Today show this morning talking about this film and Charlize had to do all the heavy lifting. Kristen all but sat there like a bump on a log.

I think it was the box office success of "Alice In Wonderland" that prompted a lot of these "re-imaginings" of fairy tales. This one looks pretty fab, it'll be interesting to see how it does. It's the director's first movie, so he could make quite the splash with this film.

I watched this last night and came away unimpressed overall. The lack of real story was glaring to me. Charlize was easily the best part of the film and she was the only one with even the remotest bit of fleshing out to her character. There was nothing to make me feel for Snow White. She barely has any dialogue and we're just supposed to take it for granted that she's worth saving. At least with the queen, we get a tiny bit of understanding of how she ended up as she did.
Even visually it wasn't that great, in that it seemed to be pretty much what you'd expect. I really wasn't impressed at all, except for the parts to do with the queen.
And how is it possible that Kristen Stewart could look such a mess throughout the entire film, even when she's supposed to look neat and clean? The only time she didn't look a mess was when she was dead! And as soon as she rose from the dead, she was back to looking a mess!

^^Seconded. The whole thing was just a confused jumble. Charlize and Chris Hemsworth were both great, except for the dodgy accents at times! They were both engaging and convincing in their roles.
KStew on the other hand... man. New levels of suckitude, indeed. Granted, she didn't have all that much to work with, and she managed to get through the whole thing without so much as a single hair fiddle, but still. She was still doing the gasping and the confused expressions with her mouth hanging open. And as for being "fairest of them all" - over Charlize? Please. She is all stoner eyes and giant rabbit teeth.
I never thought I would recommend a Julia Roberts film, but Mirror, Mirror is about a gazillion times more clever, funny and entertaining.
