She did have a period of real stardom and respect. It was fleeting but it was there. Her movies were opening at #1 at the box office, and how many actresses can say that? She was getting cast in a range of films - romcoms, thrillers, dramas - and how many actresses can say that? She was working with Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman, for goodness' sake! But she just had to be Jenny From The Block. She had to be a diva, a designer, a perfume, a *jazz hands* STAR! She was the biggest Latina actress in Hollywood history, bigger than Hayworth, Moreno, or Welch, and she pissed away her momentum with tabloid antics and bitchy behavior. She was intent on being a celebrity instead of an actor and Hollywood left her at the curb.

Yes, she did have real stardom, but I would never say she had respect. She received good notices for the George Clooney film, but after that she did a string of movies that were designed to maker her the next Julia Roberts and at that point I think she was seen differently. Yes, she was a star (and still is), but I would never say she was ever respected.
Even Halle Berry has Golden Globes and an Oscar and has a modicum of respect, despite her personal life. I don't think Halle is seen as a joke in Hollywood, despite her problems with men. She just carries herself in a certain way.

And it's not that she's dating a young dancer, because god knows that's a respectable job. It's THAT guy (whom I call the little twerp). He's not even Gabriel Aubry/hot model respectable looking or sounding. It makes it appear that she can't get anyone else or something. And maybe she can't. She traded a dancer for Ben, and now she's back to a dancer who doesn't seem half the guy Chris Judd even was.
Her dress looks cheap - both in material and message. She's a gorgeous woman, I don't get what the problem is. She could pick up a better dress (and man) at Macy's.

I finally sat down with my new issue of Harper's Bazaar this weekend, and am blown away by her total lack of touch with reality. Could her head be any further up her own rear?
Of course, the juxtaposition of this article with the glowing, inspirational article just before it, about Audrey Hepburn and how gracious and down-to-earth she was, only highlighted JLo's trashiness...

Thank you, divasahm. Thank you so very much for sending me off to find that Harper's Bazaar article. Of course I knew she was on the cover this month but that's exactly why I had avoided the issue like the plague. Your post peaked my curiousity as I had felt her most recent articles had become humble (but beyond boring); I wanted to see if the old lo was back and of course she didn't disappoint.
She is freaking hilarious in a she's such an ego-maniac she probably believes she will be getting the last laugh on everyone when she collects her lifetime achievement awards from the Academy, Globes, Grammys, etc. It must be absolute hell being around her. I can't wait to read Emme's tell all.

I think her problem was she turned into a diva without any real talent to back it up. Nothing wrong with being a diva if you really are a great actress/singer. However Lopez IMO isn't either of them. She is what happens when someone wants to be a star rather than an actor.
Even though there's a double standard for women and an even larger double standard for minority women, I still think Lopez's problem was that she wanted the star stuff, she wanted the cash and prizes. Had she chosen to be an actress, more people would still respect her.

I always remember that Movieline interview she did- I think that's helped sink her professionally. Ahem. HOLA LOVERS.

Definitely not a trade up from Skeletor. He's better looking (who with a pulse isn't?) but he's not good looking enough to compensate for probably being almost broke. And he looks really young. Like freshman in college young. It's not so much his face or body, though he's trying to butch it up with that shaved head. He just has an air of immaturity and inexperience. Green mangoes, as my granny would say.

Jennifer isn't even an ok actress/singer. She stinks plain and simple. She maybe could have had a respectable career had she stuck to supporting roles but she wanted to be a star. Jlo doesn't need anyones respect as she feels you all are beneath her anyway. She was destined for stardom if you let her tell it. She wanted to be "Liz Taylor". The power players in Hollywood needed a latina at the time to ride the latin wave. The urban crowd loved her because they thought she was repping the block. Puffy introduced her to the right people and the rest is history.
Lets be real that list of accolades listed at the top of the page if truly dissected are propped up achievements to make her more credible. She was in two #1 movies that were released with no competition and the money made barely covered the cost of making. Her albums had no longevity and had to be propped up by rappers. She took movie roles that no one else wanted and were probably more suitable for lifetime.
What I will always compliment her on is ambition despite having so little talent.

I thought the exact same thing. Such poor planning by the magazine.
