This has been my experience as well. I'm aging very well and I attribute it 100% to genetics as the women in my family just don't show their age and we don't go grey until our 60s or 70s. But, the vast majority of people I meet look pretty rough for their age. I meet women in their 20s and wrongly assume they are in their 30s. If I think we're the same age or maybe a few years apart, I find out that I could be their (very young Lorelei Gilmore-ish mother). So, yeah, I find it notable when a celebrity looks particularly good for their age even given their access to cosmetic procedures that most people can't afford.
I think J-Lo looks good for her age mainly because she hasn't changed all that much. I do consider her to be beautiful though I wouldn't put her at the top of the list of celebrity beauties. Without makeup, she reminds me of a beautiful Cuban-American woman I once knew. I don't know if J-Lo would be as breathtaking as this woman was in person but their bone structure and features are similar.

I think she's pretty enough. Or at least pretty enough to get attention, both as a celebrity and in real life.
It's her personality she needs to work on (although seeing her be pleasant on American Idol has made her seem less annoying to me). As long as I don't make the mistake of watching her music videos, I can possibly forget how annoying she has been in the past.

So, I would never say that Jlo looks good for her age since at 43 she does not look younger than me at 46, but I do think she is very attractive and incredibly photogenic. But doesn't this just mean that you look good for your age, too?

So, I would never say that Jlo looks good for her age since at 43 she does not look younger than me at 46, but I do think she is very attractive and incredibly photogenic. But doesn't this just mean that you look good for your age, too? I think the problem is saying "good for your age" since there is no one way to look at any age. Everyone is different and everyone ages differently based on parentage, race/ethnicity, genes, lifestyle etc. I get that some people may see me and other women in their mid to late 40s who don't have wrinkles or other signs of aging as looking good for our ages. However, the way I look is normal for me since my nuclear and extended family also look much younger than their ages, perhaps 10-15 years younger or more. In 2002, I had a reunion with women I went to high school with (we would have all been 37 years old then) and everyone looked like me, without wrinkles. I come from Black Caribbean parentage (so, I know that this has much to do with it) and my friends at the reunion were also Caribbean people (since I spent my high school years in the Caribbean). None of them looked worse for wear. We all looked similar in terms of how we aged or did not age. That is normal for me and for friends of my generation. And, Caribbean women of my generation simply do not use botox and fillers and all of those things. I am sure those things are popular for some in the Caribbean now, but if you are a woman of my generation from the Caribbean who grew up in the 70s, you probably are not into botox and fillers. It is just not part of our generation. So, when I hear people assume that Jlo or Halle or others have had fillers or botox because they don't have wrinkles, I want to scream. It assumes that everyone ages similarly. And, unlike Halle and Jlo, my friends and I don't have great stylists, makeup artists and beauty experts working on us. We don't fly off to Paris to go to expensive beauty spas. If Jlo and Halle and others look great (and they do), they have the advantage over me and my friends who can't, don't and won't spend thousands of dollars per year using expensive creams and expensive beauty spas. I think Jlo and a few others are aging well (or not aging) because it is natural, however, they do get help looking extra great because they have access to experts in hair, skincare, makeup and nutrition.

I get that and I'm not hating. I agree that people age differently and that there are plenty of people who look good at 40. However it is a lot easier to find someone who has aged a lot between 28 and 40 than it is to find someone who looks pretty much the same. The existence of others who look as good or better than her doesn't change my opinion that she hasn't aged much, whether it be due to lifestyle or genes.

Even though photos are air-brushed to a great deal, those high-definition cameras emphasize certain "imperfections" that I don't think I would notice in real life (i.e slight forehead lines, pores, etc). I doubt those things would appear as deep as they appear in a high-def photo taken up close.
I think Lopez looks pretty much the same as she did years ago. Someone like Cameron Diaz doesn't quite (not in the face, anyway) even though she has access to the same resources. For that reason, I can see why someone like Lopez might be praised for looking good/youthful. Ditto for Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry, Winona Ryder, etc. in comparison.
I think Gwyneth Paltrow could look slightly better for all the bragging she does about the resources she has. I only say this because she brags and wants us to know how much she pays for her fancy creams and styling, and likes to know about her easy-breezy lifestyle. I wouldn't say this otherwise.

It's an amazing stroke of PR genius that she made the top of the list without, as of yet, having a hit movie since her "comeback". Meanwhile, she may leave American Idol. She should probably stay on another season, see how her movies do in the next year or so and then jump ship as warranted.

So, I'm not the only one who believes she said she's not returning to Idol because she saw Britney Spears' $15 million contract for The X Factor, right?
