I randomly heard "Love Don't Cost a Thing" on the radio last week for the first time since it was released and it reminded me what a weak singer she was. It was before the trend of processing vocals heavily, and her natural voice is just really thin and weak. Heh. Yeah, but even that recording over ten years ago was Protooled up the yin yang to get her on pitch. This is probably a pretty good example of how she sounds without protools getting her on pitch. I believe that nowadays, when singing "live" these non-singers either sing along to their own pre-recorded (protooled) voice, or there is some kind of live protooling going on. Anyway, that performance shows what her voice really sounds like-even though she's still getting a lot of help from her backup singers. ETA: I just listened to that clip again and she may even be singing along to her own pre-recorded track as well. I think I hear a faint voice behind her. And she still sounds like shit. SMH. This clip posted by a Greecie a while ago is also a good example. She switches key between the 3rd and 4th lines of freaking "Happy Birthday"...she is SO not a natural singer AT ALL. (Change happens between 1:43 and 2:03.)

Maybe he doesn't have to marry her... she's already trying to make him famous..
A backup dancer training other backup dancers? Oh, that's riveting. You might as well propose now, Casper.

She must really like him. I don't remember her doing all of this for Chris Judd, who was also a dancer.

I recall there was some drama about the song Play, because they used Christina Milian's vocals from the demo (she wrote the song) without crediting her at first. It's practically Christina's voice on the whole chorus.

If you listen to I'm real the remix (one of her biggest hits), then you'll hear nothing but Ashanti on the chorus and jlo only does the talk singy thing. Ashanti was credited as a writer but not for her vocals and she was pissed about it. Christina said she didn't mind as long as she got paid in the end. Rumor has it she went with lessor known vocalist for her other recordings so she wouldn't run the risk of them running to the press. I think one girl is named Jaqueline because she did go to a blog but it didn't pick up any steam.

That's really intresting about Christina M and Ashanti. Those are the types of voices she would probably sound like if she could sing on pitch. Nobody would buy it if she used a powerhouse ghost vocalist, but she almost got away with it using those lighter, airy pleasant voices.

Was Im Real or the Aint it Funny remix? Because I can remember hearing Ashanti in Aif. Haven't heard I'm Real in a while though. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case for both songs.

I may have the songs confused but I think it was both. I just did a quick google search and it was both songs. You hear Ashanti quite easily in the Ain't It Funny song.

Here she is singing "live" on May 30th at the Q'Viva show in Las Vegas.
