All I know is, she's taking attention away from Zooey Deschanel. Therefore, I welcome her. And I do think it's just cool that she's unapologetic about her body. I think nothing but good can come from that.

What in the hell was with the wobbling she did? It looked likes she was walking on a broken leg under there, but I only heard this morning that she didn't like her heels? You're an (award winning ugh) actress - fake it! It looked like she wanted to get even more attention by being all too normal for heels.
I also hated her whole look. She needed color, support (I'm not a fan of the boobs hanging), and a kicky hairdo. Brush it back, put on a pretty colorful dress without the cleavage or a-line skirt, and I think she would have been very pretty.
That said, I liked her speech. And I think she was genuinely very moved. Refreshing, given that Anne Hathaway self-esteem fest.

I couldn't understand why she didn't just kick off the shoes. Wouldn't it be better to go barefoot than keep hobbling up to the stage as though she had a broken leg?
Wasn't fond of the princessey dress. It sorta flew in the face of her hipster image. I think it was too much dress for her. Way too much fabric. I must say she has some godawful tattoos.

I agree about the dress. If she's going to have the alt-look with the hair and tattoos, she needs to dress a little edgier to make it all work. That dress was frumpy, ill-fitting, bridesmaid-y, and really tame.

I thought the dress was gorgeous, just totally wrong for her. She has slumpy shoulders, get a dress to hide those not show them off.l

The dress was also a bad shape for her figure. She's NOT a fat woman, but everyone looks bigger with the big skirts. She needed a little shapewear and a form fitting dress.

Someone suggested she should've worn some kind of 20s style flapper dress and I agree. She's already unconventional and not your typical starlet. Wear a flapper dress and some cute flats. It would fit her hipster image better than a ball gown and heels. Have your assistant run over to CVS and buy some of those Dr. Scholl's flats that you can fold up and stick in your purse. I hate wearing heels, so I just don't wear them! Believe it or not, there are plenty of cute flats and sandals out there, even for formal events, even designer brands.
This morning on the way to work, I was listening to a repeat of Fresh Air interview with LD. Terry Gross mentioned that Lena and her character Hana both have tattoos of children's book illustrations. Terry pointed out that on the show Hana is trying to make it in the adult world and assert her independence, yet she has these visuals all over her body that are locked in childhood. Lena Dunham was like, "oh, yeah, that's really insightful," like she hadn't even thought of it that way until Terry mentioned it. She said she got the tattoos because she just wanted to carry these characters from her childhood with her forever. I am not anti-tattoo, but I think LD's are especially bad. They look like they are unfinished.

Clearly you have no understanding of what it means to be hipster. An ill-fitting dress is perfect for any occasion! Mysteriously hobbling around without telling anyone why in the moment, then later explaining you didn't like your girly heels is absolutely the right way to get attention. You must always, always be awkward in some way. Oh, and don't forget to imply that you're an outsider in case your appearance doesn't hit that home. My son, who knows nothing at all about Lena Dunham or her show, said sarcastically "I'm a misfit" when he saw her. Her act is transparent. BUT when she's not going out of her way to be self-deprecating and cool she can be charming and witty and nice, you know, just like an insecure 15-year-old who is one girl at school and another around her family. She really should consider growing up already.

I didn't like the dress. It looked like someone tried to style her into something that she isn't. She could still be glam without wearing a ball gown. I wish she had worn some kind of really great suit or a sleek retro dress (without overdoing it on the offbeat thing). I think it is typical for newer stars to take awhile to find their style at these awards shows, though. I know it has to be hard to figure out what kind of look you should have.

She just looked bad last night IMO. She didn't look like a hipster, she looked like a hipster wannabe trying to look like Cinderella.
