So, she called into Howard Stern's show and he issued some sort of half-assed apology.Ugh. I realize this is probably the best way for her to handle it without him being even more of an asshole and everyone saying that she is too touchy about her weight or a bitch or something, but I wish she had taken him to task a little more over what he said and how disgusting and misogynistic it was.

“I’m not super-thin, but I'm thin for, like, Detroit." Yup. She bugs the shit out of me.

I think she wears unflattering clothes on purpose. She's a wealthy, connected woman with plenty of resources at her disposal; if she wanted to wow everyone on the red carpet she certainly could. Instead she shows up in expensive designer clothes designed specifically for her that obviously don't fit. She's making a similar statement when she flaunts her body even though she's not the typical rail-thin and rock-hard naked starlet the audience expects. I just saw her on The Daily Show and I agree. There was no need to show up in a dress 3 sizes too small, unless you want to make some political statement about your back-fat.

Oh yeah she's really just rolling in back-fat. She's practically bursting out just like the Hulk in her supposedly 3 sizes too small dress. /sarcasm Why is everyone so ridiculously hard on her? I seriously doubt she's trying to flaunt her body by simply wearing clothes and existing, nor do I think she's making any grand political statements by not having as acute fashion sense as Diane Kruger. Nor do I think she needs to, quite frankly. Seriously, what's the big deal with whether or not she can put an outfit together well enough to please The Fashion Police?

The problem with being a hipster douche is that everything you do gets attributed to hipster douchedom. So if she wears something unflattering, everyone assumes she's making a douchey hipster statement with it. Maybe she doesn't know how to dress herself, I don't even know; all I know is that she's obnoxious and privileged and overhyped, and I feel her clothing reflects those things.
But yeah, her physical appearance (douchey hipster statement clothing notwithstanding) shouldn't really factor into that.

Honestly, I could not care less about her appearance or fashion sense. I just think her show is awful and over-hyped so I dislike her on that basis alone.

I actually didn't mind her GG dress and I don't remember thinking it was ill-fitting at all. I only shook my head at her teetering around like Baby First Step in the shoes she couldn't walk in. Girl, you don't let the shoes wear you! That's the first rule of high heels!

I'm with you, candysays. I think she's (mostly) a breath of fresh air who has handled a lot of media attention with grace. And for a board that usually skews feminist, I don't understand the backlash. I also think Girls is funny and well written. People seem to get annoyed with the characters for being entitled, spoiled, clueless, etc., which I think is intentional on Dunham's part. Yes, she's had a lot of success in a short period of time, and I don't think she's the voice of generation, but as writer, director, star, producer, I think it's great that young woman is writing stuff for and about women.
I also love that she subverts the male gaze with her non-Hollywood body. I don't get the hate other than the fact that she's achieved a lot in a short period of time.

Some people dislike her for shallow reasons, but I think she has provided plenty of reasons for people to genuinely dislike her. I am pretty much meh on her but I find a couple of things about her incredibly annoying. 1. Carrying on as if the connections she had didn't make things just a tad bit easier for her. Again, I don't begrudge her success, but I wish she would at wish recognize that things came a bit easier for her because of her connections. 2. Carrying on as if she is this unique being and the voice of a generation. I don't know who told her that, but no on both counts. Women like her are everywhere. In fact I know more than a few people that are just like her, the difference is they didn't get an HBO show because they don't have the right connections.
