Absolutely. That's the way to make a statement. Acknowledge it, call yourself stupid, throw in a bit of humor and move on. Takes the sting (and fun) out of what the media might say, as he's said it already himself. Perfect.

I'm with all of you—his accepting of personal responsibility is totally commendable. Good for him! (Note to Boy George: Take a hint, brother -- I know the coke didn't belong to "your friends.")
Now, get your shit together and put out another record, George!

Count me in as another one who had no pre-teen gaydar whatsoever and desperately wanted to grow up to marry George Michael! ... And actually, it really wasn't so pre-teen. I saw him on the Faith tour when I was fourteen and still wanted to marry the man! That fluorescent green image of a woman in a suspender belt screened behind the stage convinced me that obviously he likes women. Duh. I think George does have a pretty good sense of humor about himself and fame. I remember seeing him interviewed on Parkinson just after the toilet arrest and he was just so funny about the whole thing. He owned up to it and made a great joke about the irony of the LAPD arresting people for having same-sex intercourse!

Gemstone, it's how drugs are graded here. This page has some information. And good for George for acknowledging his mistake. I hope this means he'll cleans up his act. Driving like that could have got him (or someone else) killed. I'd hate for something to happen to him.

Great statement, but that snapshot looked like he was getting ready to play Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.

Thanks, Pepper67. The "class" system makes sense. The thing that's funny to me, though, is when someone says, "Class A drugs..." it sounds like "high quality drugs" to me. You know, "Primo" and so forth?
I think all we have here is felonies and misdemeanors.

I have to admit, I came here expecting lots o' snark and instead here's this deep well of George love and concern (well, and a LITTLE snark).
From all us girls who cut our gaydar on you, who learned to love gay boyfriends because you were there first...be well, George.

That is a fabulous statement. You get a lot more respect by being upfront and having a bit of a sense of humor--I'm glad he realizes that. Great statement. Compare it, for instance, to Britney "It Is What It Is, I Guess" Spears. The hot pants and the jazz hands just went straight over my head. I know you meant this figuratively, but the word-picture this painted cracked my shit up.

Well if you're going to get caught with class-C drugs, I'd say that's the classiest way to write a statement. I hate how celebrities usually claim they were mishandled by police or claim they're being made an example of. I have a lot of respect for George Michael to own up and take total blame himself, not to mention throwing in a little humor. Thumbs up.

Okay, I don't feel so bad, because I was just coming here to say the same thing. Way to take responsibility! Extra bonus points for praising the police. Why can't all of the celebs be like this?
