For all you fans of Gone Girl! ETA: I just finished it. It was awesome! Not high literature, not something for the ages ... but a lot of fun and it kept me guessing. And I loved the ending. It was so fucked up.

Thanks for the thread! I whipped through this book in about 2 days. Do we need to use spoiler tags? I'm curious as to what others thought of the ending. I liked it as well, I thought it was fitting but I have heard other people say they didn't like it. They complained that it was too unresolved. On one hand I would have liked to see a comeuppence too but on the other hand I thought the ending made sense for the tone of the book.
As I mentioned in the other thread Reese Witherspoon bought the film rights and I am guessing will play Amy. I am not sure how this would translate to film either but I do not like Reese for this part. On the surface it seems like the perfect part for her but I don't think she could pull it off. It is weird, I used to think she was talented but since she won the Oscar it seems like she has become a worse actress. And it is funny I did think of Ryan Phillipe for Nick as I was reading this. Maybe that is why Reese liked it too!

I don't think we need spoilers here. If you wander in here ... buyer beware!

I guessed right away that Amy had faked her own death. There were too many obvious signs pointing at Nick in the first half. But I didn't expect her to be such a sociopath, and I didn't expect that ending either. Very suspenseful and disturbing.
I don't know who could pull off Amy's role. Charlize Theron maybe?

Charlize Theron would be an awesome choice for Amy.
I didn't pick that she faked her own murder for a while. I was too busy hating Nick in the first half! I think it would have been kind of a cool (in a morally reprehensible way) if she had stayed hidden as Nick went off to jail.

Thanks Yoss!
I thought Desi was the bad guy (and was in a way), based on Gillian's first two books.
I did not pick up on Amy being a sociopath until 11:30pm on Weds night when I read "her confession"-- though I did pick up on everyone in her life being obsessed with her, and her parental resentment. I was so hooked on the story that I forced myself to stay up until 1am to finish as much of the book as I could.
I have to say I really liked the ending. Not Hollywood at all. I do wish Nick got the upper hand on Amy, but I don't have a problem w/ the ending. That little boy is going to have one f*ucked up life!
Charlize would be a fabulous choice (and age appropriate!!) I also think Matthew Mconaughey could play Nick.

I haven't read her other books so they're my next downloads. Yay, I love finding new authors! I actually kind of liked Amy. Yes, she was a sociopath. But she was smart and funny and determined. Nick was just an idiot. Ryan Phillipe would make a great Nick but he'd be too short opposite Charlize. What about Channing Tatum? A bit young maybe?

It wasn't Amy faking her death that shocked me, it was that her whole diary was fake. That I was not expecting. I kind of liked Amy too even after she was revealed to be a sociopath. I though the scavenger hunt was ingenious. And Nick was an idiot and a cheater. Maybe he didn't deserve to have his life destroyed but I did enjoy watching him squirm. The only thing I did feel badly for him was when he found out Amy was pregnant as that was his last chance to escape. Of course his plan of revenge before that, write a nasty tell all was not that clever. She really outsmarted him on all levels.
I agree that Charlize would make a great Amy. How about a Young Adult reunion with Patrick Wilson as Nick?

The only part of the storyline that annoyed me was when Amy let those two grifters rob her. She knew they were bad news - you'd think super smart Amy might have outwitted them! I know it was a plot device to force her to go back to Nick but still. That bugged.
