WHAT? Why? Is it... open? Crikey.
(Why do I even want more details?)

Her toe looked kinda black, and when she took off the sock all these gnats swarmed onto it. The accident supposedly happened years ago, so I hope she's not an undiagnosed type 2 who has constant infections.

If that woman's not diabetic or getting there fast, I'll eat my hat. This family makes me seriously sad.

Oh snap! I have now only seen a little bit of this show (the Bingo episode) and they kept going on about June's bad eyesight. She couldn't see to put make up on Honey Boo Boo (poor child wound up looking like something John Waters would want in his early films), couldn't see the Bingo board. I kept thinking- even poverty stricken, can't she get some glasses? But now hearing about the never healing TOE- oh stars, I think it's gotta be diabetes related. She's only 32?!?!? God bless 'em! That's not good at all. So far, the only thing I've taken away from the few bits I've seen of this family is they're very kind and loving to each other. I live in an area that's very rural, poverty stricken and full of families like this. But what I see around me too much is folks taking it all out on their kids and loved ones. Lots of anger and snipping and snapping. I haven't seen any of that here. Of course, I haven't watched much and also they could be editing things out for the TV or even being on their best behavior for the cameras. But, I'm not getting those vibes. In what I saw, Alana messed up her Bingo cards, and June scolded her- but not harshly. She kept telling her to hush when the numbers were called- but again, without any anger behind it. They didn't win and were disappointed- Alana kept claiming a woman behind them was cheating. But there was no meanness or hatred in their words. Hell, that already sets them apart from most Reality Celebs right there. Off to watch more...

They're definitely kind. There doesn't seen to be any of that fucked up kind-with-expectations stuff there.
I may not love them but they're refreshingly happy. It's been a while since I saw anyone enjoying being on a reality show.

I think that is why I am hesitant to snark on them. They might not be the "perfect" family, but we all know families who look and act like they are doing everything "right", but are flat-out miserable. It is nice to see kind and happy people on TV.

I've never seen the show (only clips online), but my mom was just saying the same thing to me -- she said the show "grosses her out," but that they all seem like sweet, happy people. She said they are clearly teaching Alana manners and that she seems like a sweet little girl.
But reading about her foot -- dear Lord. Why doesn't she see a doctor? If the network is going to profit from this family, why can't they at least pay for her to go have that taken care of?

Imagine the ratings when she has to have it amputated in emergency surgery though.

I started watching for the trainwreck factor and they won me over.
Alana is a cute, inquisitive and likeable little kid, Sugar Bear is a sweetheart who loves them all and Pumpkin, the one I wrote off as being little more than feral, wants Sugar Bear to be her real dad and was first to want to hold the new baby, and Uncle Poodle is just awesome.
There's definitely chaos in that family but there are also obvious currents of warmth and sweetness and genuine bonding that the Kardashians and Eden's World utterly lack.
I can't wait for more episodes.
