Wow, there I was thinking how weird it was that for the finale they went back to season 1 pace (having Brody and Carrie play house at the lake) and then suddenly that bomb went off. I'm sure Brody had nothing to do with it. I bet the PTB thought about killing him off but I guess they're trying to hold onto Damien Lewis. I read today though that they haven't mapped out yet what to do with the Brody family (and Brody himself) in season 3.

I started watching this show, a week ago. I marathoned through both seasons in a week. By the time I got to the episode "I'll fly away" when Carrie and Brody are in the motel, he is finally done lying and can tell the truth again...when Carrie sits next to him and mentions that this wasn't the life she had pictured them having. When Brody asked her what she did imagine...that slight change in his eyes (damn Damien Lewis is amazing in this role)....I lost my shit completely. I didn't realize how huge the emotional triggers were, for me, in this show. I've had a bit of a mental breakdown since that episode. Ok, more than a 'bit'. I thought I was empathizing with Carrie's mental health, but turns out I'm more 'brody' in my head. I wish this show would give some focus onto the fact that Nicholas Brody was OUR marine, and captured/tortured/isolated/broken and remade as a terrorist, only to come back to OUR land and not really be treated for that. I understand that he is/was a terrorist, but the CIA (Estes in particular, glad he's f'in gone) just paints him as a terrorist now, because he strapped the suicide vest on. What hell and mindfucking did OUR soldier endure. I just don't think this is being addressed well enough. back to the topic... I do not like Saul one bit. Probably because I am not a fan of Mandy P. But last night, when he told Carrie she was the smartest and fucking dumbest (something like that) I really didn't think that it was acting, I felt it was Mandy spitting out his venom for real. Damien Lewis....is utterly amazing. I am just awestruck at how subtle his movements are, but so much behind them. This show is haunting me. For one week...lol. I can't imagine having watched it for 2 years. sorry...rambling. I can't wait for Season 3.

That is very true. When Brody came back in season 1, it seemed that the government, the VP especially wanted to prop him up for PR purposes, more than be actually concerned about his mental health.
The irony of the video is that Nazir was the one who set Brody up this time. He knew that Brody was no longer a believer. He only killed the VP because of Carrie. This was Nazir's way of really saying, "fuck you" to Brody. The bomb in Brody's car, the video which was NOT released by the CIA but this new terrorist group; Nazir always had a copy of that video as insurance probably. In reality, Nazir probably thought Brody would have been in that room when it exploded and would have been killed too and the video made it look like Brody had JUST made it, rather than made it over a year ago.

And can anyone tell me if that was the Hebrew prayer for the dead Saul was reciting at the end? Yes, that is the traditional Jewish prayer of mourning, called the Mourner's Kaddish. It is said during Jewish funerals at the grave site and at Sabbath and holiday services throughout the year. Mandy chose to recite it in an Ashkenazi pronunciation, which substitutes "s" for "t" sounds in words and is more of an "old fashioned" pronounciation for European/Yiddish-speaking Jews. This is Mandy's personal tradition (he's recorded albums of Yiddish songs and his given name "Mandel" is a Yiddish name) so he obviously chose to make it Saul's as well.

When I think about this show I wonder how would it play out if the genders were reversed? Would a male CIA agent give up his job for a female who'd been turned by terrorists?

I have to agree. In fact, on 24, the white female terrorist was irredeemable.

Double posting for the season premiere. Holy crap, I can't believe that Saul actually told the truth about Carrie... on live television! I can't imagine what their relationship will be like after this. I'm sure he will have had a really good reason for doing it, but damn, that was cold. I feel so bad for Saul, he really has piles upon piles of shit to deal with. And it seems like Carrie is totally off the rails again (hooking up with randoms from gas stations?).
I'm not at all surprised about Dana- I figured she would either try to kill herself or be really into drugs/alcohol by now. And now she's going straight Lifetime movie, sexting topless pics to her rehab boyfriend. This won't end well. And I REALLY don't want Dana's love life to become a major storyline again. And speaking of the Brody family, I can't believe that "Uncle Mike" hasn't swooped in to their rescue again.
Quinn looked unbelievably hot/badass in all of his scenes. But when he shot someone through the window I KNEW it would be the kid! So sad. He's going to have a hard time with that, I'm sure.
It was a great premiere, but Brody's absence definitely left a hole in the show. I'll be glad when they start showing what he is up to.
