Gee, that's so nice of a couple of multimillionaires who on a whim don't think twice about spending several millions just throwing a party on a chartered yacht to donate a whopping 1 million each {/sarcasm}
Since they've gotten filty rich calling their own people niggas, I guess it would be a little hypocritical for them to come out and protest the fact that their people are being treated like niggas and less than subhuman by their own government.
I'm willing to bet that after last night, Kanye will back up his statement by donating a lot more than the paltry 2 million combined donations of Joe Camel and Diddy's cheap asses.

I have no opinion one way or another on Mr. West, in large part because I'm not familiar with his music. But he just won my respect for the Bush comment. I know how much my community college students love Kayne, so that warms my heart a bit.
But, yeah, Mike Myers looked really uncomfortable. Which made West's spontaneous comment seem that much more inspired and truthful. He may be an egotistical jerk in the rest of his life, but I love that he said that on the sterile celebrities begging-for-money show. I'm just so outraged by the America's lack of response that anything that draws attention to it is fine by me.

You know, I would feel the same way, but after seeing the list of celebrity donors of 9/11 that was recently posted in another thread, I guess in Hollywood, a million is a big deal. When it comes to a donation, that is. Aside from a couple of $2 mil. givers (Britters was one), and a very few $1 mil. donors, there was a list of about ten or so other celebrities who gave. The sad thing was, this list was quite short and any celebrity who gave a paltry $25,000 or more was on it. This list was a huge eye opener for me and was quite depressing. If that list is the culmination of what Hollywood can muster up to give in the face of a huge tragedy, I don't hold out much hope for better in this case. So in all, prior to seeing this list, I would have had the same opinion of of a celebrity $1 million gift (that it's pathetic, particularly given how much these people blow on parties, clothes and bling). But after seeing the list, I guess it's pretty generous by Hollywood standards. I'm very interested to see how much Kanye donates. I really hope he puts his money where his big smarmy mouth is.

I'm sure Kanye will be donating some of the money he had "made by calling his people niggas".Kanye uses the word too.
I don't see how Kanye's donation - when eventually gets round to signing the check and send it off and then comes on TV of course to tell us about it - would be coming from a better place than it is from Diddy and Mr Jigga Man?
And they acted earlier. They were concerned and thinking about the crisis and donating while he by his own admission was still out shopping.
Well now he does care about it he can get round to giving. He can afford it and he doesn't need to meet up with his manager to sign his own personal check.

I think its also important to note that a lot of people who give, do so anonymously. We really have no idea who gave how much except for those that chose to make it public. And why should someone be looked down on because they chose to give silently. In fact I think anonymous donations are more respectable because they show a celeb isn't partially motivated by thier image. Ultimatelly I don't think we'll every know who gave exactly what.

I agree. I really don't get up on people for donating, because maybe some just do it anonymously. How are we going to know about it? And while we are bitching that they did nothing, they did do something. Kudos to Kanye. I absolutely adore him for his comments on Bush. He said what many people were thinking but were too afraid to say.

Part of the reason why Kanye annoys me. Sean Combs and Shawn Carter (Jay Z) had already given money but most people here didn't know that because they gave it and haven't been jumping up and down about it. Kanye hadn't even reached into his pocket yet before he had to get on TV and talk about himself. There are many celebs who have been doing things to raise awareness and appeal for donations from the public in the media - Leonardio De Caprio's dignified and organised efforts for example. I've seen his appeal. That's the way to get involved media wise and really help. Not to mention the countless other celebs not in the spotlight who have simply given anonymously. And of course the public out there who just picked up the phone and their credit card and just gave.

Jay Z and Diddy were the first to donate. They donnated $1 million each of their own cash and already had sent their money and encouraged other celebs to give too well before Kanye's emotional outburst. They were doing this while Kanye was out doing all that shopping he mentioned. I'm not sure if Diddy and Jay-Z donated a million each or a million jointly. USA Today article It sounds more like it was half a million each...

I knew I heard that Jay Z or Diddy had already approached Kanye the previous day to donate. What I heard is that Diddy called him personally to urge him to donate - as he did other celebs he knew.
How come Kanye didn't give then and there. And by the time of his comments he hadn't organised a check? But so many others did and had the day before.
I'm not saying he won't donate eventually, when he finds he finds his credit card..maybe he left in one of those shops he was at? Or that his comments about Bush were not the truth about Bush as we can clearly see the barbaric way in which the govt has acted.
But other celebrities have given money and are out in campaigns making ads appealing to the public for more donations and that's more than he had done. But he seems to be getting all the attention here. I got to hand it to him. He's slick.
