Wow, I had no idea who the guy was until about 6 months ago. I'm really behind.
I thought he only got big in the past year or so. Wasn't he a really successfull writer/producer before. Maybe I'm mixing him up with someone else. I'm not very in tune with my generations music since I vowed never to watch MTV again. And after reading about that person's encounter with him, I'm reminded of one of the many reasons I stopped watching that channel: random video hos.

Or maybe people can have different opinions.
I'm sorry I missed his comments during the live broadcast. The way the people of New Orlenas are being treated is a disgrace. I'm glad he called out Bush.

All that to me still doesn't prove that his comments were insincere just that whenever he's upset about something he tends to mouth off rather than filtering his comments. That may make him arrogant, annoying, unpleasant, an asshole, immature whatever, but it doesn't really say that he doesn't mean what he says. For me the real test is what he does next with regards to the situation. Funny how if it were Fiddy or someone more obviously "pre-packaged as odious" the accounts would have been embraced as merely comfirmation of how rotten to the core and worthless in all things da Fiddy really is. Kanye fakes the funk and - I repeat - there is a temptation to take the easy route and a desire to just wanna drink that koolaid. Just because I can not stand Lil Jon, Fiddy, Tha G-unit and whatever else crap is on MTV these days it doesn't mean I'm going to love this conceited pretentious dumb fuckwit. For me it's just not a matter of default. I bet if Fiddy had said a word or two about the hurricane trying to get his own 50 cent in the game it wouldn't have been taken with the generous benefit of the doubt awarded this Mister "I Drive a Canary Yellow Porsche When I'm In NYC And Wear Diamonds In My Ears And Boast About My Designer Clothes And Get Pissed When People At Award Shows Ignore My Fancy Wears And Don't Vote Me Best Dressed... But I Am Totally Appauled And Against The Shallow Blinged Out Lifestyle And Call Out Other Rappers On This Issue Because Like JLo I'm So REAL About Being So FAKE!". He's a hypocrite and that probably makes me even more sick than triffling Lil Jon's ign'ant ass.

Now I want to meet him just to see if all those reports about Kanye's ignorant behaviour are true. I would like to believe that the arrogance is just part of his "on stage" persona, but if he really is a jerk someone needs to cuss his sorry ass out. Fo' real yo. I'm having mixed feelings about him. On one hand I respect him for taking a stand on homophobia and Katrina. On the other, I'm wondering what the hell is wrong with him. I'm not one of those people who believes celebrities can do no wrong, but I can't bring myself to hate Kanye. I'm surprised you all haven't come up with a nick name for him. You call Russell Crowe Fatty McManboobs, but Kanye doesn't get an alias? Damn. PS. I just saw Kanye's Katrina rant on CNN and he seemed genuinely concerned. I think he was distressed by what he saw.

I saw him on TRL the other day and he went ballistic because the host asked him a question that he requested not be asked prior to the start of the show. That day I thought he was a total asswipe. Tonight? I thought he was sincere and unrehearsed. He was visibly nervous but determined and resolute. What made me know he was sincere was the fact that he actually criticized himself for going shopping while his people were suffering and dying and admitted he was wrong and felt bad for doing that. He then went on to say he is willing to give any amount of his own money to help his people.
It made me proud to see him put his career and personal well being on the line (because we all know what our government is capable of in the form of retaliation) to hit the right idiot in the right place at the right time. Now the rest of the world doesn't have to wonder whether the Blacks and poor of the great and powerful US are treated as poorly by their own government as they treat people of color globally.
Where's JayZ, Russell, PShitty and the rest of the millionaires who have gotten rich calling their own people niggas . . . . . somewhere counting their millions while thinking no way in hell are they going to open their mouths in defense of their people and risk their precious millions to help the very people they called niggas on their way to becoming multimillionaires.
I applaud Kanye's courage and candor.

CNN Headline News is running video of Kanye's comments in their entirety, complete with the obviously dazed Mike Myers reading from the teleprompter.
That spoiled, self-absorbed asshat just won a fan. (I'll go back to hating him when everyone has been evacuated from New Orleans).
Shocking. Yes. Hard to watch. Yes. Needed to be said. Hell-to-the-Yes! (Just wish he were more eloquent when speaking impromptu)
ETA- words in english...

Well, that's not nice.
And boo to NBC for editing it out during the non-east coast broadcast. This will likely be discussed in other media outlets and people not from the east coast should've been provided a chance to see the incidents in its context.

I only saw a soundbite on the late news from the hurricane benefit. But I just bought a Kanye song from iTunes and donated $75 to hurricane relief.
Not a personal fan of the man...but I respect this.
ETA: And further more, there's furor over Kanye's comments...yet no one says anything about Bush's press conference after touring the devasation where he expresses concern for Senator Trent Lott's multimillion dollar mansion that's gone?!!? Poor Trent Lott! Boo Hoo! Like he doesn't have a place in Washington and probably somewhere else to go! Thousands of others don't!
My ire is off the meters right now.

Jay Z and Diddy were the first to donate. They donnated $1 million each of their own cash and already had sent their money and encouraged other celebs to give too well before Kanye's emotional outburst. They were doing this while Kanye was out doing all that shopping he mentioned. I'm just watching with interest to know when Kanye will get round to actually pulling the checkbook out and when he does how much he will give personally. Jay Z and Diddy didn't dither. They immediately got out their checkbooks, actually made their donations and got out their asking the celebs to donate as much as possible of their money as they had done by example. I believe Diddy was ringing up celebs he knew personally appealing for donations. In this situation Jay Z and Diddy really stepped up and took action. I saw the articles on Diddy's and Jay Z's $1 million donations the day before the Kanye stuff. I wouldn't doubt Diddy had already called him as one of the people he knows asking Kanye to donate. The best I caught of Kanye's outburst where him giving money was concerned was that he wanted to get with his manager and look into it and he didn't commit himself to a figure. So far he hasn't donated.

I'm pretty sure that when the VMA's were on nobody yet knew how bad things were going to get. They knew it was coming but it hadn't really happened yet, no searing images on TV etc. By the time he spoke, everyone knew, he knew.
I had a friend call me in the middle of the night Friday 3am screaming about the water, "they need water". I hadn't been watching TV, she had.
