What Kanye West said at the Hurricane Katrina BenefitYou know, I found his outburst much more convincing than anything Bush has ever said about this catastrophe. I give Mr. West points for his incoherent sincerity. However, Mr. Bush will always win points on simple incoherence.

Sort of, but only in the album version, I think. The song uses a Ray Charles sample and the intro is Jamie singing as Ray. Which I can't decide if that's genius or dumb. I also don't think the song is that misogynistic -- I mean, I don't feel like Kanye thinks it applies to all women, by any means. He doesn't come off that way off-record, to me.
Wow, the hatred is pretty high here, but I don't get it. I think it's pretty obvious lyrically that he has a sense-of-humor about himself and his song subjects as well. And he is fairly open about being arrogant, which I like. I think his Bush comments came from a place of anger and if he is donating himself to the relief effort, why isn't that enough? I certainly don't think he is self-serving -- certainly not compared to, say, the whole Vote or Die campaign starring Diddy and Paris Hilton.
Oh totally. In the Radar Magazine with him, they ask him what his favorite Beatles song is and he admits that he doesn't know them that well, but he's trying to learn, expand his musical taste, listen to classical, etc.

Like I said he is the same asshole who spent most of an interview vexing and complaining about how hard done by he was for not being voted the Best Dressed and visibly being angry about it while these people were being killed and having all they owned and had in this world destroyed by a hurricane!
And even at the time he decides to take it upon himself to mention his "disgust" at how the hurricane aftermath is being handled what is he doing? he's in the process of complaining at another ceremony about how unfair it is that he didn't get an award!!!
Of course with people dead and the survivors with no water the fact that they chose someone else to win before Kanye is a big issue that must be addressed! And then attach an outburst about some other issue to his toddler tantrum tirade over not getting a prize and we're good to go.
Omigod! He makes me ill!

What's the Ray sample used on "Golddigger"?

Amen. I'll take candor and unfettered opinion from someone like KW over spin and knuckleheadedness from dubya any day.

I don't know if Kanye West is just really immature with a chip on his shoulder or a complete unredeemable asshole, but I guess I don't really see that his behaviour at the vma's automatically renders his comments about Bush and the relief effort insincere. It's not like his comments are mutually exclusive. Not to mention they're two separate events that happened days apart from each other. To me his behaviour post his comments would be far more telling of his sincerity than that. It is possible to be an asshole about somethings and still be able to be affected by others.

How about that as he was making his comments he was at the WMA's another and totally separate award show from the VMAs on a totally different day still bitching about not winning this and not winning that ...oh and as an aside he's upset about the hurricane...but did he mention again how the people here are wrong for not awarding him this year? Did he already mention that? Why isn't Kanye walking out with the award?
He's almost on the brink of being in the league of Oprah calling racism at Hermes for not letting her in to shop after closing. I'm sure if the camera stayed on him and he was allowed to go on he was going to connect his not getting a music award on that little show with the horrible and REAL plight of the hurricane victims! I swear. That's the asshat he is. It's actually a shame the camera and mic didn't stay on him. I just know that's where he would have eventually gone with it. It just his nature. And it would have come out with just a few more seconds on air. It's always all about him.

I have visited Snarkfest and seen it. It was just shocking. Well shocking if only I hadn't seen so many similar reports of Kanye's one on one rudeness and assholiishness on the old "Fametracker" forum threads.
So many reports and not a single person came of liking him or even came out with just a normal neutral experience. Different people different locations and he was consistently an rude horrid asshole and would leave people pissed at him and with an extremely bad experience of meeting him in person to talk about.

All that to me still doesn't prove that his comments were insincere just that whenever he's upset about something he tends to mouth off rather than filtering his comments. That may make him arrogant, annoying, unpleasant, an asshole, immature whatever, but it doesn't really say that he doesn't mean what he says. For me the real test is what he does next with regards to the situation.
