I was pretty meh on the finale. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great.
My main complaint, and this is a general criticism of the last couple of seasons as well, I wish they would have gone further into the Perestroika/Glasnost era. However, in this episode, I would have liked to see a flash forward. The flash forward could have been one of two things- a)Seeing Elizabeth after they'd been back a year or so, coming to terms what the 1987 Soviet Union was really like- the corruption, the deprivation, the rottenness that Oleg talked about or b)Elizabeth during or after the fall of the Soviet Union, seeing that all her work and sacrifice had been for nought.

I really liked the ending as well. After it was over, I just felt heartbroken. And I don't think I'll ever hear "With or Without You" without thinking of this episode.
I wonder if Stan becomes Henry's guardian and would that raise eyebrows at the FBI? I thought it was a pretty interesting when they did that wide shot in the hockey rink after Stan told him everything. You saw the "Jennings" on the back of Henry's jersey and it was a reminder it's a fictional name.
And does Paige stick around? I guess the only person who knows that she knows something is Stan. And after seeing Renee look at the Jennings' house after Stan leaves, I'm pretty sure she's a spy.

Finally caught up. Noah Emmerich deserves an Emmy for his 'What. In the entire fuck am I hearing right now?' expression. Phenomenal. And Philip's bon mot about Renee? Superb. They didn't kill Oleg. And I will live in a world believing two years later Mr. Gorbachev 'tore down that wall' and Oleg went home to his wife and baby.

Just watched the finale. I unexpectedly cried A LOT. I know Stan is not a perfect person and he has done some awful things in the same category as the Russians, but yeah. That BFF speech was something. Even Paige was good in that garage scene. I really wasn't sure if Stan would keep up the charade or if he was just giving them a running head start until he straight up lied to . I FOR SURE thought Paige was going to be in custody but the realization that she stepped off voluntarily and Keri Russell's reaction in the train to seeing Paige on the platform really broke my heart as much as it surprised me.

I just did a re-watch of all six seasons (took me about 2 months) and, wow, I enjoyed it even more without year-long breaks in between seasons where I would forget half the dense plots. Even Elizabeth's extremism made more sense watching it this way. And now I'm totally convinced Philip wasn't wrong and Renee was "one of us." They didn't kill Oleg. And I will live in a world believing two years later Mr. Gorbachev 'tore down that wall' and Oleg went home to his wife and baby. Yes, please. I really loved his story arc.

Thanks for reviving this thread. I stopped watching a ways back but recently was wondering what happened to Oleg (oh, and the Jennings too, I guess.)

So it's a rainy Sunday and I'm still on the mend, so I just rewatched the pilot episode. My god, that might be one of, if not the best, pilots out there.
