I can't even begin to comprehend the people who think Rob and Kristen are together w/ a baby. How to they explain their average acting skills in accordance with this HUGE charade? And I would also LOVE to get a psychoanalysis of these women. Some of the fans do seem really young. Others seem to be middle age, and that fascinates me more. I know that on Celebitchy, a lot of the women are married, and seem to have meaningful careers... so it's not like they're all cat ladies spinsters living out the fantasy (no offense to Greecies who love cats and are not married). The same thing happened with Cumberbatch, I think? A lot of the younger fans on Tumblr showed more restraint than the grown-up women on Celebitchy. (Although Tumblr is catching up.) The Robsten tag on Tumblr is BATSHIT. To the point of not really even being a fun trainwreck read anymore. IIRC Hiddleston has been stalked at filming locations/hotels by some of his more, uh, intense fans. There was also an incident a couple years back where a woman (I forget who?) was mistakenly identified as his "wife" and his Tumblr tag was a giant meltdown.

I wonder if any psychologists have ever studied fandom meltdowns. Because I would love an explanation why some people become so involved in the personal life of a person they never met. I wonder what will happen if (I only say if because hey things happen not because I think the engagement is fake) they get married. How will the engagement truthers explain that? If they have kids? Will they insist the baby really isn't Benedict's or she faked the pregnancy for attention? Check out the J2 tinhats in Supernatural fandom. They're still convinced that Jared and Jensen are in twu wuv and hiding it via beards (their wives) and babies that were either the beard getting pregnant using a turkey baster or being a cheating ho and the poor boys must pretend it's their child or- I dunno. I can only translate from Late Moron for so long before my head explodes.

I can only translate from Late Moron for so long before my head explodes. I was going to say about the J2 tinhatters! They are devoted to their delusion! It's really astonishing how convinced they are about it all. And I would also LOVE to get a psychoanalysis of these women. Some of the fans do seem really young. Others seem to be middle age, and that fascinates me more. I know that on Celebitchy, a lot of the women are married, and seem to have meaningful careers... so it's not like they're all cat ladies spinsters living out the fantasy (no offense to Greecies who love cats and are not married) Me too! If someone brought out a book examining the psychology that drives the women** to become so devoted to these beliefs and defending these beliefs, I'd read the heck out of it. **And men? I don't know how many men get drawn into this, but it seems to be at least mostly women. I wonder if there's a bit of middle age crisis to the women. (I say that as a middle aged woman, btw.) Like life isn't going the way they want, they're dealing with the stresses of aging parents/growing kids/being middle aged/health problems, so they bury their heads in fandom to escape. Then, as GinFizz said, they're surrounded by like-minded people egging them on and agreeing with them, so there's no one to point out how irrational their beliefs are.

And the hormonal changes of menopause are not that different from that during puberty. I can see the same crazy adolescent crushes happening with some menopausal women.

That's a good point Gremlins. It could very well be....
When the news first hit about a possible secret girlfriend, the ladies at CB began to describe Benedict as a hypocrite. Apparently, they expected him to fancy some other kind of woman-- someone like his former girlfriend Olivia. Though I truly believe that if the scenario were reversed, and BC had been in a relationship with Sophie for 10 years, then got suddenly engaged to Olivia, the nutters would belittle everything about Olivia. I don't think they'd be happy with anyone. It's just sad.
As for men participating in meltdowns, Datalounge has some delusional, bitter folks who frequently post. It hurts my head too much to visit there, but the folks on DL definitely have a strong opinion that strait up nonsensical. (I think because everyone can remain fairly anonymous.)
As to the other obsessive fandoms, good god! I'm speechless. I truly had no idea this kind of thing existed. Apparently they think the old Hollywood system is still in effect.

The internet allows these people to congregate and that makes the problem worse. When you're only surrounded by like-minded people who are agreeing with you 100%, it's easier to fall down the rabbit hole of unreality. I've seen people that started out relatively sane and normal become more and more unhinged because they have the hive-mind to back them up. That said, with what we've seen from the likes of Kimye and CTC, it's no wonder that people are calling 'media stunt!' with every celeb news story these days. I think this is the answer. Now with the Internet, you can find "your people," who believe in all kinds of crazy shit. I'm not surprised fans are going batshit over BC and think it's a hoax. I think about Kimye, and Beyonce when she was pregnant and Katie Holmes when she was pregnant.

Ha! The Katie Holmes pregnancy will always be my favorite! That was so fun, I don't think we'll have anything to match the bizarro events of that entire relationship! Forgot to add: I really want to see him in The Imitation Game.

Aw! I think it's kind of sweet that an "older" heart is still young and open enough to experience being crushed by a crush.*
*That's the best spin I can put on it, ok!
