Funny confession: As recently as 2011 I didn't know Benedict Cumberbatch was a real person. I actually thought he was a Harry Potter character (haven't read the books or watched the movies). This was after the first season of "Sherlock" had aired.

I didn't realize people were so vitriolic and suspicious about his engagement. Jeez. Just read the comment section of a Celebitchy post from this weekend and whoa...people are really invested in this man. I'm still shaking my head at the level of cray cray I just read.

Her tag on Tumblr is filled with almost nothing but "engagement truther" posts, albeit a lot of them seem to be coming from the same single blog. Some folks are deranged.

Tumblr seems to be the devil's playground anyway. It's good for pics and gifs and such, but the structure really lends itself to hivemind and insularity. Various truthers and shippers building elaborate fantasy worlds that never get questioned and then getting angry at the celebs for daring to live their lives in different ways than they imagined. It's pretty scary.
And I imagine if you have an, erm, overinvested fanbase like Cumberbatch anyway, the effect gets multiplied and you get craziness like that. It's a really good thing he's staying away from all social media and limits contact in that way. He's being incredibly gracious and kind to fans as is, considering the problems he's had with stalkers.

I don't read a lot of social media anyway unless it appears on one the sites I visit. He seems like a nice guy and he doesn't seem like the type to use such extreme measures to win a Oscar...I hope. The backlash wouldn't be worth it. I'm sure he's ambitious though. He'd have to be. Hollywood takes no prisoners. The favorites for the Oscar win are Michael Keaton and Eddie Redmayne. I'd like Benedict to win. He's paid his dues and is a versatile wonderful actor, but if not I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Micheal Keaton. I'm still hoping for Benedict. Don't think Micheal's performance was that much of a stretch. He is the "sentimental" favorite and Hollywood is just one big popularity contest. I saw some photos of the happy couple lately and it sure looks like Sophie is pregnant. Maybe that was the rush in the engagement. Abstinence is the only surefire birth control! But congrats if true and I hope they are happy.

I've posted this in other places, but the fans are truly Twi-hard deranged. So much so that I had to step back from Tumblr and Celebitchy. There was just too much hate, and it hasn't abated in 2 months.
I kid you not, fans are hiring private investigators to look into the shenanigans. They are doing a "pillow-type" time line in hopes of proving it's all a ruse. And anyone who questions their tactics are jealous haters who just don't have a clue.
Now I'm still team pillow (cause Co$ is cray-cray), but I think this is legit. I hope they're happy, and the obsessives quietly go away.

I don't venture much into his threads on CB, but last night was just ridiculous. No one could post anything positive or nice about Sophie without being labeled a troll, a Sophiaphile, or jumped on for drinking the kool-aid. Really? And I've noticed they've couched all their issues into outrage about his supposed Oscar campaign. If Harvey was truly backing this film, we'd see a lot more stuff than an engagement and baby.

Wait, so if his fans think that this whole engagement is fake and all, shouldn't they hate *him* for that? Yeah, I don't know why I am trying to make sense of this.
They look happy (she seems understandably nervous in fron of the photographers) and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a baby on the way. Some of the pics from the latest event sure make her look pregnant but then again, once you're past 30, it sometimes doesn't take much to make you look like you're three months pregnant. The dress doesn't help either ;-)

BC has talked A LOT over the years about his desire to settle down, get married and have a family. Why are these people so shocked and incredulous over the fact that he's gone and done just that?

BC has talked A LOT over the years about his desire to settle down, get married and have a family. Why are these people so shocked and incredulous over the fact that he's gone and done just that? Because she doesn't meet their standards. Her CV has been whitewashed. Her accomplishments are a joke. Her family blabs to the tabs. She's stuck up.... blah, blah, blah. I truly believe that if things were reversed and Sophie came first and BC was now engaged to Olivia, they'd go after her too. I really think they're bitter-table-for-one because he chose someone they will never be....
