Well, are we going to see it or are we offended by the idea of a remake?
The commercials are freakin' me out.

The reviews I'm seeing -- from some of the hardest critics -- are saying that it pays homage while still being it's own film and that it's well done.
That said, I love horror movies, but I don't know if I will see it. I saw the original at a church lock-in (!!) when I was 13. Normally, I'm pretty much okay with anything a horror flick throws at me. But at one point, I actually had to go outside and stop watching because it was making me light headed. So, in my mind, the original Evil Dead is the one horror movie I can't handle. Now that it's 20 years later, I should try to rewatch the original and see if it still is too much, hah. Maybe I will roll my eyes at my teenage self (I usually do).

I just came back from seeing it. I thought it was just okay. I wasn't scared for one second so for me, it fails as a horror movie. It's very, very gory though with lots of blood, vomit, and various other body fluids.

Does Bruce at least have an uncredited cameo? Mild, vague spoilers aheadI saw it this weekend- No Campbell cameo- though he is listed as a Producer at the end. I enjoyed myself- it was entertaining and yes, they had many homages to the original while mixing up the story/ events/ causes of death, etc. And it's quite possible it may hold a new World Record for use of fake blood. That said, it didn't have the same soul as the original. I didn't really give a crap about any of the characters even as they tried to give them some backstory.... I take it back. There were two main characters they gave backstory to, the rest were just kinda there. I don't feel I wasted my money- 'cause like I said I was entertained (But admittedly, I'm a total gorehound) But I probably have no reason to ever see it again. Why? Because it was done better in the original.... and duh, No Bruce Campbell! Plus, I wouldn't call it a scary movie. It's really just gory. The original was scary because even though they didn't delve too deep into the characters (it was just five young adults going to an old cabin to relax/party- you didn't know much about their lives beyond that), it was easy to care about these people because of how they interacted with each other. Plus they were really innocent victims of circumstance. They discovered the Book of the Dead and the recording that the original cabin owner had made of his research about the book- and by the time they played it out of boredom/curiosity it was too late. It was terrible to watch them be destroyed one after the other. Terrible and scary. These new set of characters- only two get a backstory, the rest are there as friends/well wishers (slam pieces?). But you would never believe they had a history together other than them saying they do. No chemistry between the actors at all. They don't just find the Book of the Dead and think "Hey, what's this?" They find it surrounded among signs of very BAD BAD MOJO, (like get out of the cabin immediately, call the police, you dweebs!) the thing is wrapped up in barbed wire and has notes that say "Leave this book alone!" "Do not read aloud!" So when the sh*t hits the fan, it's much harder to feel sorry for them. So you're not scared for them. Great gore though.

There is a Bruce Campbell cameo after the credits. It's on Youtube. It's just Bruce in dimly lit profile saying "groovy", then turning his head quickly to face the camera.

That would have been awesome! Unfortunatly for me I had to pee so bad by the end of the movie that I left as soon as the blood finished pouring down the stairs. Must check it out on YouTube!!
