I agree with everyone else's assessment. Piper and Daya's storylines were boring, mainly because the characters are completely unsympathetic and not evil enough to be watch to see what they do next types. Norma's storyline went no where and involved characters I don't really care about.
I would watch an entire season of what is going on with the black girls' clique, especially with Sosa as an honorary member. I like watching them try to deal with Crazy Eyes.
I'm glad to read I wasn't the only one that caught the Morelli having new husband beat up Christopher tidbit. They kinda slid that one under the fence. They keep dropping these subtle hints about how crazy she really is, instead of hitting us over the head with it like they do with Crazy Eyes. Like when she talked about her non-existent kids coming to visit her for mothers day. I hope they keep it up, because her character is fascinating.

Oh P.S. I wonder what will happen with the Martha Stewart/ Paula Deen type woman. From the way they had her self-surrender right at the end, it seems she might be the New Piper while Piper is busy being the New Vee. I think I'll plan to ignore them both and hope for more better Suzanne and her new Dandelion, Poussey and Soso, Rabbi in training Cindy, SHU Free Sophia and Boo and 'Tucky saving the world from Donuts. Can the kitchen handle another bossy redhead?

Season 3 really wasn't as good as the others. Last go 'round, I felt compelled to rewatch each season as soon as I finished, reliving all the awesome, and catching little details I'd missed before. This season, I've tried to rewatch- and it seems like a chore. I didn't get very far before I lost interest all together. There seemed to be a lot of wheel spinning- Like introducing the Paula Deen type, keeping her in the background and then ultimately saving her for the next season (I'm assuming?) Problem is, I'm not really interested in what she might bring to the table. I almost wonder if they had some plans that were derailed by the departures of Natasha Lyonne and Matt McGorry and then were left scrambling to fill up their missing plot lines with some fluff. Although that doesn't explain why Poussey's storyline was so all over the place (she went from standing up to Vee last season to bagging a squirrel?!?!?) or why Suzanne became nothing more than comic relief while Piper just got more and more insufferable. Oh well. Maybe next season will turn it all around. And if there are anymore cast shake ups on the horizon- they can always be replaced by kittens!! (I'd sooo watch a whole show about the adventures of Piper Catman!)

Pardon my double post (but it's been over half a year!) but I checked imdb to see when the next season of OitNB starts. And they have spaces set up for SEVEN seasons! Wah?? Hmm... Is that just wishful thinking on their part, or are they really contracted for seven seasons? If this had been announced right after Season 2, I would have been happy dancing, chasing legendary chickens and whipping up a batch of celebratory pruno. But Season 3 was heavy on the dud side. Not entirely irredeemable mind you. But now much harder to imagine seven seasons worth of high drama/comedy in Orange and Beige. Maybe Season 4 will change my mind. But right now I'm squinting hard but not seeing it. Still, if they'd want fake!Piper's story to play out for that many seasons, she'd have to have a much longer sentence than real!Piper had. And since fake!Piper does seem more inclined towards illegal activity, it's very possible she could wind up with a stronger/longer sentence. Right now, my main issue with Piper as a character is that even though she sometimes says she's the same as everyone else- you can tell she really deep down thinks she's better than everyone. I was totally put off by how easily she exploited the other women for their panties and then whined that their demanding a bigger share of the money was robbing HER of HER right to capitalist enterprise. Seriously, Piper? And you don't think you're better than everyone else? If rather than whining she full on became the new Vee and scared everyone into giving up their panties- I'd still hate her- but I'd respect her more. C'mon Piper! Break Bad. All the way! I dare this series to take their sunny, almost naive 'criminal... but not really criminal' heroine and totally turn her into Walterina White by the end. I could watch Seven Seasons of that!

I could see Piper getting out of prison and the show leaving her behind. Jenji Kohan said the wealthy white protagonist was a Trojan Horse that they needed in order to sell the show, but their real interest was in the other characters. I'm pretty sure the show's viewers would agree at this point that the other characters are indeed much more interesting.
I really enjoyed Season 3. I think it was a much-needed reprieve from all of the violence and intrigue from Season 2. Cindy finding religion, Crazy Eyes finding her calling as a writer (and a girlfriend), Pennsatucky becoming human, and Soso being accepted were all touching storylines.
In fact, the only big problem I had with last season was the Stella character, and she was only there to give Piper something to do. I hope they don't feel the need to do that next season and just let Piper become the supporting character she should be.

I love all the non-Piper characters too- But they need a good bad guy for the audience to love to hate. Vee's dead. Pornstache is jailed. Fig's been canned. Pennsatucky's mellowed out. Piper could be the new Queen Bee. I, and plenty of other folks, already hate her. Now if she could just obtain that 'love to hate' status.

Season three did have some high points (the already mentioned Cindy finding religion and Suzanne's erotic alien fiction), but man, was Piper totally useless. She and Alex were boring as hell (Alex is more interesting with Nicky - who's gone). Stella was a big nothing. And I don't care about Piper and her dirty undies empire. She could leave the show and I totally wouldn't care. I didn't mind getting to know more about the prison staff, but we got too much of it.
I don't know how the show is going to work now that the prison is doubling the population. The cast is already pretty crowded.

I reckon they will just have a ton more women in the background, not more characters. But the overcrowding will definitely be a plot line.

I was really let down by this most recent season. I *loved* the early seasons of Weeds but, man, did that show go sliding off the rails in its later seasons. So that's my experience with Jenji Kohan and it makes me a little wary about the direction of the show.
Love, love, love all the supporting characters, though, so I hope they can pull it together.

New Season Trailer! Yay? At one point Boo says 'I do not like where this is heading'. I'm not 100% sure I do either! It looks like it's getting way darker. Which, I'm ok with dark. But there's also SOOOO many new people and it seems crowded and cluttered and worst of all claustrophobic which makes me itchy. I don't mind dark... but I need more breathing room for the dark stuff to take place in. But lots of shots of Poussey- so YAY! Hope she gets a better storyline this season.
