I forget where I read it, but a showrunner or writer mentioned that right now the clothes are all that connects him to his past, where he was most comfortable, thus they didn't want to throw him in jeans and a J. Crew sweater right away. That makes sense to me. I get it too, and although this show requires a LOT of suspension of disbelief, one of the things that strikes me as most incredible about Crane's whole situation is that NO ONE EVER SAYS ANYTHING (or seems to react) about his out-of-place clothing. I'd love a throwaway shot of someone giving him a look like, "WTF is this guy wearing?" or asking him if he's a Revolutionary War re-enactor or something. He and Abbie were sitting there at the ballgame and everyone's in jeans while he's in his 18th-Century getup, and ... nope, nobody thinks that's odd. I think that's kind of hilarious. Also, those clothes are not only 250 years old, they've also taken a beating (he's been on the run from the horseman, jumping into an open grave, kidnapped while wearing them, etc.). Why don't they look worse? I think it'd be jarring to just put him in modern clothes, but maybe they could ease into it? Maybe Abbie buys him a new coat because the old one is looking rough? Something? I also think they could "modernize" him a bit without making him look too different. Provided that (please baby Jesus) they don't dress him like a hipster. ETA: I had to laugh because the ONTDers were shipping Crane with ... wait for it ... Arthur Bernard. Haha. Tom Mison has chemistry with everyone (well, except for the actress playing Katrina, IMO).

Hate to say it, but that makes sense. When they were reciting whatever, it sounded like pretty intense wedding vows.
As for Crane's clothes...well, in NYC I see some pretty interesting getups. In fact during NY Comic-Con, some cosplayers got on the subway and initially some people looked at them, and then went back to what they were doing, folks here will look, and then think, "whatever."

I want him dressed like a hipster. Skinny jeans and combat boots and a pea coat, please. But I realize I can't have everything.

I was watching a video with the creators talking about him saying "leftenant" and the director yelled, "CUT!" because they thought he messed up. To which they were surprised to know that he was totally in character and was saying it exactly as Crane would have for that period and time.
They decided to keep it in which kept the authentic theme of his character. I personally love it and find it all the more endearing.

I just want to scream. Get over it! It's how he's supposed to say it, you little phonic dilettantes!

I have to stay away from the fandom on this one because it scares me. Badly. Although Orlando Jones' fangirling is completely acceptable.

Double post because Crane left a voicemail and I had to talk about it somewhere. Between that his "That was WILDLY inappropriate" reaction, I was dying. I would watch an entire episode full of nothing but scenes like that.

This was one of my fave episodes. His disgust for bottled water (that you have to PAY FOR!!), buying in bulk, internet porn and what we've done to this planet had me dying.
And the way he leaves a voice message...AWESOME.
His reaction to being told there was arsenic in his free water from the local market was too funny!
I know that he's wearing wigs and all, but seriously this guy needs to keep them (and that look) going all the time in real life. Just because.

I loved his voicemail, it was exactly liked he'd write a letter and so formal. I am really enjoying the way his introduction to this century and technology is being handled, as opposed to having him running around squealing, thinking technology is the devil or some stupid shit like that. Ichabod's an educated man. He's not a caveman; he's not gonna throw sticks at the television.

Why is leftenant considered incorrect?
John Cho keeps upping the creepy factor. Good job sir!
