I initially thought Capt. Orlando (ha!) was a baddie, but I'm starting to think maybe the writers are trying to make us believe he's shady, only to reveal he's actually a good guy (and probably knows more than he lets on). Or maybe I just like the actor and don't want him to go the way of most TV villains. The first two eps I thought he was for sure going to turn out to be a bad guy but now I am starting to think (read: hope) he is genuinely well meaning. I guess we'll see. Kind of nice that, for once, a show has me guessing -- I honestly don't know which direction they'll take him.
Weird to see him as a serious character, though!
Can't wait to see more Jenny.
Yeah, I love that, despite her fears, nobody truly second-guesses Abbie and she is clearly a force to be reckoned with.

Not a fan of Orlando Jones. Can take him or leave him, but he is hilarious on Twitter. He tweets during the show and he's been asking for fic recs. He even suggested one to Tom. Loves.

I kinda like this show, but it still feels like a bit of a mess. Maybe it will find its groove over the next few episodes.
I mean, points for a diverse cast and good chemistry between the leads, but it's not all quite hanging together for me. I like Ichabod. He's funny and he's doing a pretty good job of rolling with the punches all things considered. I like that they aren't over-playing the fish out of water stuff, but I wish we would get a smidge more, and provide more opportunity for Ichabod to be funny (though subtle stuff like the post-it notes all over his hotel room is great). Abby is good, but I want her fleshed out more. She's essentially the "Scully" of this duo, and if you aren't careful, it is really easy for a Scully to become a bore. And they need to find a more entertaining way to have these two stand around and spew exposition.
And I'm having a hard time letting go of the lack of logic. Ichabod is a dude running around in 1700s clothes who claims to basically be a time-traveller who constantly goes on about witches and headless horsemen, and yet Captain Orlando is totally cool with him consulting on these cases. And OF COURSE the first Native American they run to is secretly a shaman, and bizarrely, requires scorpion venom for his magic even though I'm pretty sure scorpions aren't native to upstate New York. Couldn't they use some sort of spider or something that actually lives in that climate? And why was all the Native American stuff in the magical secret lair very Southwestern in general? This is New York, not New Mexico. P.S. Ichabod - the Mohawks were pro-British back in your day. You probably weren't too friendly with them. The show needs to do better homework.
I also wish the Sandman and the witch for the previous episode were a little harder to beat. I know it is early still, but one of the nice things about the X-Files that made it scarier was that the monsters frequently got away. They should do the same here.
I hope they bring the reluctant servant/corpse of John Cho back. Looking worse and getting more pissed off each time.

Isn't that a quick order for a second season? Or is that just how it goes if ratings are high enough?

Isn't that a quick order for a second season? Or is that just how it goes if ratings are high enough? Both. The show is doing well in the key demographic 18-49. It's 3+ & 7+ day DVR numbers are also good. It has a growing online fandom. I'm not surprised it was renewed early.

It's kinda fast for network TV - cable TV will renew a show before it even airs if the execs really like it, Network moves a bit slower, but this show has done well.
They are also going with the 13 episode season model, which I think is a good idea. I think you get much tighter storytelling with that number and far less filler.

I have to admit I was sort of surprised the show was renewed this quickly the last show I remember that caught on this fast was the Walking Dead.

Isn't that a quick order for a second season? Or is that just how it goes if ratings are high enough? I've seen quicker. I think a second season of Game of Thrones was ordered within days of the premiere of the first episode.

This episode wasn't as scary as the first 3, but damn if it wasn't excellent. Abbie Mills is one of the best written, fleshed out women on TV today. This is the 4th episode and the writers have given us more background about her than her male co-star. What is this strange and wonderful show?
Ichabod Crane has more sass than should be legal. I love him. Love him!
And then they add Jenny Mills. Stop being so awesome, Sleepy Hollow!
