I really liked it. I saw it in a regular theatre and was blown away by the visuals, so I'm sure IMAX would be awesome. I just don't want to drive 45 minutes to do that. Agree with those who find it a bonus that an action movie starring an "older" woman is doing so well. I hope it blows the new Arnie-Sly pic to the bottom of the list.

I absolutely loved this. My budget is tight but I did spring for 3D and recommend it (for me, IMAX doesn't usually enhance my experience). I felt the claustrophobia and the sense of loss, and surprisingly, I found myself tearing up a few times. This makes The Blind Side Oscar seem even odder. It was really a very simple story told compellingly.

I saw this in 3D yesterday and I enjoyed it for the most part. The visuals were spectacular and there were some really scary moments. I did dislike Clooney and agree that his character was really condescending. Maybe it's the Clooney "charm".

I finally got to see this tonight when my tennis lesson got canceled. I wasn't upset by Clooney's character one bit. From what I gather, a lot of the astronauts came from test pilots ... and all around military macho types. So I thought he did a believable job, and you cannot say he didn't come through in the "clinch." To those on the fence, you should see this in the theater if possible. If you wait for DVD an watch this on the couch with a plate big nachos, you may not get the full effect. Did anyone else think that Ms. Bullock's thighs looked weird? Sorry, I had not seen them before and for some reason finally getting to see them temporarily took me out of the movie.

I think Clooney was definitely playing his character, who was obnoxious. And partially to keep Bullock's character from freaking out. Who can worry about space when he's yammering in your ear?

That was my take on what Clooney was mostly doing too. Sandra's character was still trying to find her sea (space) legs in the beginning, so he was yammering to distract her then, and he was especially doing it when (spoiler)she was out of oxygen, basically breathing only CO2, and trying to get into the ISS. He kept yammering to keep her conscious and to keep her focused.
I thought she just looked strong. She's talked about how much she had to work out to be in shape in this movie - in all the "weightless" scenes she's just suspended by a harness around her waist, so whenever she was horizontal, she had to hold her legs up and keep them up for several minutes without her muscles shaking so they could have the illusion she was weightless. In a couple scenes where she had to move a certain way that was almost impossible to do while not weightless, they had her hooked up to puppeteers like a marionette, but in most of the "indoor" scenes, it's just a harness and Sandra's core and thigh muscles of steel making her look weightless.
It sounds like it was a pretty grueling movie to shoot from a physical standpoint. They talked around it in one interview and didn't come right out and say it, but it sounds like they had to get pretty creative shooting some of Clooney's scenes because he couldn't do some of the wire work, I'm guessing due to his back issues. And then surprisingly, some of the scenes you'd think would be the hardest (physically) were the easiest for the actors, like (spoiler)when Sandra is tumbling through space after the accident before Clooney retrieves her, she isn't spinning around in a harness, she's just standing on a box while they moved the cameras and lights around her to make it look like she was spinning.

Holy shit, my thigh muscles are shaking just thinking about all that physical stuff.

Remember the part where Dr. Stone calls for help and ends up talking with some random guy and they bark like dogs together? Here's a short film called "Aningaaq" made by Jonás Cuarón about the other side of that conversation. It's going to be submitted in the Live-Action Short category for the Oscars.
