Thanks for this.
My friend, who's actually a director, saw this via screener ON HIS COMPUTER despite all my hollering. Predictably, he got bored after Clooney's schtick. I'm like, you needed to be in a room of people that's tense and scared to drink soda for fear of losing a single word of dialog. His loss.
ETA: I haven't seen 12 Years a Slave yet (have to be mentally prepared for that one), but so far this is still my movie of the year. It's a beautiful, simple story, but I realized looking back that I felt this could've been my story, of sorts: trying to hold on after adversity. Making a conscious choice to keep moving forward. I was emotional for most of this film & yes, it was the acting, etc. but I also took it fairly personally.

I loved this movie and I'm so thankful for all of the recommendations to see it in 3D. I never see movies in 3D and it was definitely worth it. I give everyone major kudos for pulling this one off. The movie lived and died on sustaining the suspense and they did it. Sandra was amazing. It must be especially difficult for an actress with her temperament to work without someone else to play off of. I had kind of a random thought while watching - it was nice to see an actress undress in a situation that made perfect sense and was completely non-sexual. Directors have a way of sexualizing mundane scenes with actresses in a way that doesn't happen with actors so the ordinariness of it struck me in that moment.
