The Fifty Shades Wikia gives Anastasia's year of birth as 1989 and she went a state university in America where she supposedly had a 4.0, without an email address! That's comedy right there.

He didn't say she didn't have to work, he told her she COULDN'T work and when she defied him, he bought the company she worked for, fired her supervisor and gave her his job, and undermined all her credibility with her staff and in the industry. To hear someone tell it better than me check out Jenny Reads 50 Shades.I just want to thank you, twopfan, for sharing that link to Jenny Read 50 Shades. Hilarious and spot on with what the heck is wrong with the book.

Yes, thank you for the link twopfan! I'm only on chapter five so far, but I've been enjoying it immensely.

Having never read Twilight OR Fifty Shades, I am enjoying the blog very much! I'd probably have tossed the book across the room in the middle of the first chapter. This way I get all the fun and don't have to wade through the crap.
( I love the tie with grey piercing eyes and disheveled hair.)

I finally finished the recaps of the first book and found them extremely funny and satisfying. I haven't read the other 50 Shades books, but I think I'll continue on with the recaps for those, just for fun. I had forgotten how absolutely TERRIBLE Christian and Ana are, Jesus. Their relationship makes Bella and Edward's look normal and healthy- well, almost.

I couldn't get past the fact that AnaBella didn't have an email address, either through a Web service or through her college. I started college in the mid-'90s, and everyone had to get a university email address. What annoyed me was that Christian was a SELF-MADE billionaire at age 27. Twenty-seven! And he did not invent Facebook or something tech-y and somewhat believable, but made all of his money as an entrepreneur. It is like James wanted him to be young, hot and rich, and apparently a Christian in his thirties or forties where that actually might make more sense was not perfect enough.

In the recaps the lack of understanding E.L. James had for American culture and geography was pointed out, and it made me wonder if 50 Shades wouldn't have been so laughable had she written the story and characters within the culture and locations she was familiar with. I guess she was so hung up on fanfic'g that she couldn't bring herself to go there. Her romance must take place in the Pacific Northwest. What's really ridiculous about that is that she didn't incorporate the locality into the story (as far as I read anyway).

Even with the story taking place in England, EL James would still be an atrocious writer with little understanding of BDSM and passing off stalkerish behavior as love, but gems like Jose's "dazzling all-Hispanic-American smile" do make Fifty Shades that much more mockable...

This is true. I vaguely remember E.L. James being interviewed by Barbara Walters and claiming she researched BDSM, which begs the question -- was she lying about doing research or is she so dense that information she attains gets filtered through a layer of stupid?

Or she researched it by reading bad fanfic. I wouldn't be surprised if that counted as research in her mind.
