I saw Frozen last weekend for the first time - it was cute, I guess. I have to admit, I liked Brave more than this.

If I didn't like this and also had no prior interest to watching, am I missing out by not watching recent Disney movies? I loved the golden era of Pixar movies but I haven't really cared anything since Up.

I thought Tangled was really good, too. Wreck-It Ralph and Tangled were done by the same people that did Frozen. I can't stand Pixar anymore (well, I guess even back when) because they always get rid of a character by death or make things so sad. Boo! I can handle it for established fairy tales, but not when I'm getting acquainted with new characters!

I finally saw Frozen with one of my nieces. It definatly does deserves its accolades: involving, pretty to look at, the songs were good, the message was good, and it just zipped by. No looking at my watch. Very different from previous Disney fare: it was structured more like a musical, and lacked the obnoxious, wise-assy sidekicks. Olaf came close, but in the end he was more childlike and innocent. It was more stately and less manic. After it I tried to watch Mulan, and literally couldn't because the dragon sidekick was so annoying.

I'm a little bitter towards Frozen right now because they have just shuttered one of my favorite rides at Walt Disney World (Maelstrom, in the Norway pavilion at Epcot) and are turning it into a Frozen ride. A lot of hardcore Disney fans are pissed about this. It feels like they are throwing Frozen into everything now, which is understandable because of the wild popularity of the film, but it gets old after awhile. It doesn't look like Anna and Elsa are going away anytime soon, though.

madefortv- I knew you were a hardcore Disney fan based on the fact that you have a Nancy Carey profile picture. ;-) Tom Hamilton was a hottie.
I felt that way when Disneyland turned the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse into the Tarzan treehouse. But that might also be because I hated Tarzan and loved Swiss Family Robinson.

Well, Disney does have to keep up with the times. Most kids today wouldn't know who the Swiss Family Robinson were.

I love Summer Magic! At least they still have the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse at Disney World (for now). I agree they need to keep up with the times, but I think it's important to maintain plenty of Disney nostalgia/history in the parks as well, since it's one of the things that adds to the magic of the theme parks and IMO makes them more special than, say, Universal Studios (which I enjoy, but those parks don't have the sentimental appeal to me that the Disney ones do). And I actually think a Frozen ride is a great idea, but I don't like it being in World Showcase in Epcot, which is supposed to be more about the countries represented in the pavilions rather than Disney characters/films. Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread.
