I'd read that Heather Graham was going to be in a remake of Flowers in the Attic, but I didn't think much about it until I came across this article with pictures from the movie on Lifetime. Looking at the pics made a lot of memories come flooding back, because I read that whole series a million times when I was in the seventh grade. I was surprised that Heather seems to make a good Corrine Whatsername. (What was their last name?) I think all the kids look pretty close to how I imagined them except Kiernan Shipka. I remember that the book went on and on and on about how pale blonde and beautiful Cathy was. Kiernan has darker coloring than I imagined. Oh well. I watched the trailer and I have to admit it looks kinda good and spooky! Plus they're not shying away from the mega incest! Oh, yeah...they're setting it in the fifties, which seems like a good decision. Anyway, the 42-year-old me wishes she could share this with the 12-year-old me. Seriously, I had that book memorized back in the day.

Dollanganger.
Sigh, I loved that book series so much. I remember rooting for Chris and Cathy to get together (yay, incest!). of course I was like 12, so that's my excuse.
DVR'ing this puppy and praying it's good.

Is this available to watch in Canada? It won't ruin my fond memories of the books will it?

It's on Lifetime, so it should be. I'm watching. Just told Batguy that we'd be recording it. He is baffled.

I have serious reservations about Heather Graham as Corinne, but we'll see.
I also thought one thing the original movie did right was casting Louise Fletcher as the Grandmother. I just don't see how anyone could compare, but I look forward to seeing Ellen Burstyn in the role.

DVR'ing this puppy and praying it's good. It's actually Foxworth, but the name was changed to Dollanganger by Corrine's husband/half-uncle/half-brother after they both married. I remember reading all the FITA book series in middle school and sharing them with my older sister and friends. I am DVRing this too and am excited. Would anyone like a powdered doughnut?

Oh, God. These books were like a right of passage when I was a kid. Everyone read them. The next step up from Sweet Valley High - where rape actually happens and not just false accusations, and the boys go beyond just touching your boob. And the dude getting past second base is most likely a relative.
Wasn't there something about the younger sister having an abnormally large head or something? Then Big Head Carrie offed herself with powdered donuts?
I remember wishing that ballet dancer Julian wasn't a total bastard because he was the only one I felt I could cheer for since he wasn't related to Cathy and wasn't a kindly father figure ( up until the point he bones her).

Bows to Koshergrit and her more thorough disclaimer on the last name. Yes, of course! Foxworth Hall it was! *Going in the way back machine in my head* Wasn't Carrie's growth horribly stunted from either lack of sunshine or the arsenic poisoning--so she reached her full height and was like still crazy short with a big head? And, yeah, she did off herself in the same way that did Cory in. Twins stick together, I guess.

I think both Carrie and Cory both had big heads and little bodies because they never saw sunlight and were malnourished. That's why they were saving their powdered doughnuts to give to Cory--I don't think the twins ate much. Chris and Cathy would sneak out and go swimming but the twins kind of withered. And didn't Corrine just stash his body in another part of the house rather than taking him to a doctor?
I loved this entire series, although #3 was kind of boring because there was no sex in it. I remember pretty much hating Cathy though. Honest to God there was a line in the book that went something like, "I couldn't believe that beautiful woman in the mirror looking back at me was ME!" Because she became more and more breathtakingly beautiful as she hit puberty. Anyway, that wasn't my experience in reality so that character irked me. I also was always annoyed how devoted Chris was to her even while she was boinking her way through all of her adopted stepdads. (Wasn't Bart father Cathy's mom's second husband--the one she kissed when she snuck down from the attic to watch some big party they were hosting?)
One random thing I remember: How after the grandmother caught Cathy admiring herself in the mirror she drugged her and poured tar all over her hair. When trying to get it out Chris suggested she pee in the tub in case that might help dissolve it.
Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to watch this one. It really takes me down memory lane.
ETA: And Carrie loved the colors purple and red. In the second book they got her a red typewriter.
