Am I the only one who could see a younger Amy Schumer as Tonya?
Man, the 94 Olympics was the dopest figure skating comp ever! Everybody was there. I hope this movie goes full cheese and casts a tiny, excitable Scott Hamilton, Brian Boitano, Katarina Witt in her Robin Hood outfit, my faves G&G (RIP!), Pasha, Torvill and Dean...there's material for 10 biopics in there.

I believe Tonya saying the judges threatened her as much as I believe Tonya saying the FBI's handwriting analysis proved the handwriting wasn't hers. Skating-wise, things all came together for Tonya in 1991 when she won Nationals (and beat Nancy Kerrigan). She was in good shape, she landed her triple axel, and she was skating to one of the most ridiculous music medleys in figure skating history - the Batman soundtrack, Send in the Clowns and Wild Thing. And it's the Wild Thing part of the routine that actually worked because Tonya really connected to it and had fun with it and the crowd loved it. I don't think it would be impossible to skate to ZZ Top with some artistic merit, but you would really need to do it right and sell it properly. Tonya had no artistic instincts, and you could actually see when she skated to Wild Thing that she doesn't really have any rhythm or musicality at all, so it was a bit of a fluke that it came together for her. Another thing that sticks with me is when somebody back in the 90s asked Jeff Gillooly whether it bothered him that he went to prison while Tonya got away with it. He said he was better off because he came clean, served his time, and was going to move on with his life, but Tonya was going to be trapped in her lies for the rest of her life. Wise words from Gillooly. What a trip down memory lane. I totally agree with you about Tonya's music choices. It wasn't so much that she skated to ZZ Top, per se, the problem was that she skated to ZZ Top in the same program as Sondheim and Batman. Much like her life, she was all over the map. She could have maintained her anti-establishment spirit/bucked the classical mucky muck and still won, but everything about her was an unfocused mishmash. And it's a testament to her athletic abilities that she still was able to win (when on) despite the creative diarrhea of her programs/styling. Her performance right before the 1992 Olympics at Skate America was so good... if only she had kept applying herself like that, she definitely would have medaled, and quite possibly would have won gold on her own merits, regardless of tacky music/garish costumes/unconventional background. Just to bring it back to Margot, I hope she and the other producer find a strong creative hand to direct the movie. The screenwriter is not promising (if his past credits are any indication), but maybe a good director/lots of uncredited rewrites can tell this story properly and/or avoid it becoming a watered down movie-of-the-week. It's really quite amazing on so many levels: that Tonya was basically her own worst enemy, that one athlete tried to physically take out the competition, that it was a *female figure skater* of all people, the media storm it created... and that it all happened before the advent of social media. And with the backdrop being, well, figure skating, visually there's so much there to work with.

I think Margot is way too tall to play Tonya Harding.

I like the Wonder Woman cuffs, but she could wear that dress to any event, nothing about it says Met gala to me.

I agree, petitesuite. It's a beautiful look, but she should have saved it for an awards show or a premiere.
