Casting tidbits: Woody Harrelson's Good Daughter is the same actress who plays Sociopathic Survivor on The Walking Dead. Brighton Sharbino Dang, that girl is good. She can do sociopath just as well as annoying goody two shoes and she's only 11.

I'm so glad to hear there are others who don't really know what's going on, but love it. Honestly, they could just show McConaughey and Harrelson driving around while McConaughey says crazy shit and I would watch it. What I like about the show is that Hart and Cohle are not telling the 2012 detectives what really happened in 1995. So now I feel that everything that's said, unless we, the audience can see it, is suspect.

Oohhh, the hairs on my neck stood up when Hart started talking about all the suppressing fire and cover they had to take during the "standoff". Just a good combo of storytelling, flashbacks, and flash forwards. Even though Cohle is a drunken wildcard, Hart is absolutely convincing. I kept waiting for 10 more guys to rush out & attack them. (A-doy!) It was also quite telling how calm Cohle was after someone's head was blown off. Just another day in crazytown...
And in a moment of truly dark humor, Hart keeping on that goofy disguise from the Ginger setup made me laugh inappropriately.
ETA: I'm open to watch another season, but I'm not sure what script or actors they could bring in that would possibly match or surpass this year's.

MrB is watching it and loving it but had to take some time off after one episode because it was just so extreme. I asked him what happened but he told me that I did not want to know. I am what is normally referred to as, "a weenie".

I am what is normally referred to as, "a weenie". Interesting. I don't like graphic violence at all. To me this show isn't extreme in its violence, meaning it's not a slash-fest; but it's damn obsessive. I watched the first episode and immediately I wanted more and more and more. I liked when Cohle said that time is a circle, or life is a circle because that's how we, the viewers are seeing him. It's like we're not watching Hart and Cohle in linear time, we're watching them simultaneously in 1995, 2002 and 2012; if that makes any sense. Shit, I'm starting to think like Cohle.

I am what is normally referred to as, "a weenie". Borokat, was it episode four, "Who Goes There?" Because that was some intense stuff. I rewatched it about 10x, naturally, but it's dark on many levels. It's critical to what comes next, so maybe try watching it in broad daylight on the computer (smaller screen, less impact?). I was much more affected by the initial body discovery (reminded me too much of Hannibal, which I DO have problems watching at times). Part of me is still confused as to how that made it to primetime... Apparently with this + Dallas Buyers Club (and I'd even say The Lincoln Lawyer), the media and/or fans have dubbed this the "McConnaissance." Apt. And he seems like he's having a blast, so I'm happy for him. He seems to be a pleasant guy, good dad/hubby, and an actor finally working the muscles that had grown dormant. I don't agree with the "everything happens for a reason" nugget, but in his case, maybe all those horrific rom-coms got him hungry enough to really stretch himself and push, successfully, for these meatier roles. (Because I'm nice, while out of town I went with my bff to see "Failure to Launch" and neither of us laughed once. It was a disaster.)

bklynred, you should watch "Frailty." It came out in 2001 and MM scared the living shit out of me in that movie. When I saw it I was like, "Damn, he should do more of this stuff."
"Who Goes There?" is pretty intense, especially the last few minutes. I was sitting, staring at the TV screen, lights out, just wondering what was going to happen. I've watched it about 5 times since, it was great.

I don't know, Bklynred. I will have to ask him. He wants to watch the next one but usually does it at bedtime and apparently that was not the best idea.
I have thought that McConealrightalrightalright was destined for great things since A Time to Kill. I always wondered why he was slumming in the romcoms when he was better than that. I thought that it was just for the $$$.

I don't think I've been able to watch it again since.
