All the elaborate conspiracy theories going around are making me think a lot of people are going to be disappointed tomorrow night. I honestly don't think the conclusion is going to be as wacky as people hope. I'm just hoping the main questions are answered and we get something resembling a satisfying conclusion.

I'm a stark anti-spoiler-ee so I haven't read anything about anybody. All I want to do is rewatch the drug/projects one-shot over and over. (I was halfway through it and realized, OMG they're not cutting...they're not cutting!) I am way too into the mechanics of film making for it not to be my craft.

(I was halfway through it and realized, OMG they're not cutting...they're not cutting!) I am way too into the mechanics of film making for it not to be my craft. My mind is/was so blown. I kept rewinding and rewatching that scene over and over. I didn't even realize it was a single shot until I read about it on a forum. How they didn't catch on that Cohle was a cop when he cleared the house room to room, astounds me. But from the time the music cranks up, and he's telling the other bearded guy don't shoot anyone, I don't think I blinked once. I didn't even realize I was holding my breath, until Cohle and Ginger made it to the car. I knew he had to get away, but I didn't know if they'd get shot, or busted out of jurisdiction or what. Jebus. That was one of the most amazing scenes in any show I've ever seen. And I guess the Yellow King was revealed at the end of episode 7. How they find him and the other men under the masks I don't know. I can't believe there's only one episode left. I'm pretty sure MM is a lock for the Emmy/GG next year. What a come back. ETA: Does anyone have a timeline on when this was shot? Was it around that same time as DBC? MM's weight does seem to fluctuate, but that could be all smoke and mirrors. He looked buff in 1995, but a lot skinnier in 2012. Maybe he's hiding it under clothes, or using posture techniques.

They wrapped production in July 2013. I know they filmed back-to-back and it was something that was a little unheard of in regards to a TV show. MM said backstage after the Oscar win that they filmed something like for 6 months? I don't know if that's true, but I remember reading an article when the director was interviewed and he said something along those lines.
DBC wrapped in late December 2012/early January 2013, so he was already on his way bulking up for True Detective. If they started filming all the scenes of him in 2012 first (which would make sense), that would only require a small amount of time to get in the can. I would think they'd then film the later 2012 scenes once they wrapped the 1995 or if he started to get his weight back in track. I don't think he looks exactly the same in the 2012 "present day" scenes in the later episodes. He looks a little gaunt, but more like you said...posturing and whatnot.
Shit, I don't know. The lengths they've gone with this show and how completely stellar it is, I'm surprised it wasn't a movie. It's just superb.

Okay, I just fell down a rabbit-hole and having been reading all sorts of stuff that I've been avoiding to stay spoiler free. 2 hours later, I found out that they filmed the entire thing in 100 days. Shooting 12-14 hours each day. What order they shot in, I don't know. I'm assuming MM didn't gain or lose that much weight or muscle. It has to be mainly clothes and physical performance. Also, some of the theories out there are really wild. Maggie as the Yellow King? Bizarro.

This is the story True Detective was likely based on: LINK I don't think there's any spoiler material in the article. It's basically about bizarre crimes that were committed and people going to jail for them. Nothing too twisty.

Pretty good ending and I'm glad there wasn't a big "twist." I do wish they had given us a definitive answer as to whether Hart's daughter was abused by the cult.

Can anyone tell me what Rust's last line was? All I could make out was "First there was dark" and then it got all mumbly.
