I watched the first episode and enjoyed it, especially for presenting evolution as a fact (are there any young earth creationist letter-writing campaigns yet?). And I teared up a bit at the very end when Tyson talked about meeting Sagan as a teenager and what an inspiration he was.

Evidently a station in Oklahoma cut out part of the episode, probably the part with the big bang, I just saw the headline and rolled my eyes. |

I'm watching it and really like it. So much so that The Walking Dead is the one getting DVR'ed. That never happens. I'm going to be so conflicted when the new Game of Thrones season starts.

I also thought that it was touching and really cool when he talked about Carl Sagan. I love NDT!

I LOVED the original and I love the new one! NDT is one of my favorite people and I'm so glad he's trying to bring why science is so important to a wider audience.

I hate celebrity interviews and usually cringe through them but NDT is one of the few people I enjoy watching in an interview setting. Strangely, so is Matt Damon.

I wonder if that station developed "technical difficulties" for last night's episode. NDT made some very pointed comments that seemed to be aimed directly at people who deny evolution.
I love that evolution animation! I remember it from years ago.
He was hilarious on The Daily Show back when the "Pluto is no longer a planet" story was going on. Jon said something like, "I heard you got hate mail," and NDT wailed, "I got hate mail from THIRD GRADERS!"

I loved that NDT used the eye as an example of evolution since that seems to be what creationists hold up as the explanation for intelligent design. NDT was all, "Okay, here's how it works." |

A TV station actually made a Family Guy joke true?Sometimes I really, really hate the far Christian Right. Come on, folks - this stuff is breath-taking and amazing! Why can't they see God in the wonder of the Big Bang or evolution? Isn't that more amazing and wonderful than God just going "Boom. Universe."? They can't listen to Bill Nye talk about the joy of discovery and be moved?They can't listen to NDT talk about why he became an astrophysicist and hear that it was a lot like a spiritual calling for him?I don't care if people see God in the wonders of the universe. That isn't a bad thing. I don't see any proof that a god made it all, but there's no way to rule it out completely, either. It's when people cling to the Bible and shut out curiosity and discovery that drives me mad. These are very, VERY important things to society. We need them in order to continue to grow and thrive. Shutting it out and turning inward only leads to the the failure of a society. Don't hobble us like that. Don't deny your children the chance to discover because you've decided that you already know all the answers. You don't. Oy. Obviously this is a bugaboo for me. But I love NDT, and I'm digging Cosmos. I'm so glad they are doing this new version. |
