I watched Dancing with the Stars last night with friends, and I thought pTV's forum might be funny, since it's such a silly, cheesy show. Holy wow, no. There are a lot of easily scandalized people in that thread. That show is very kid-friendly -- I watched it with some 6-year-olds -- but these people were complaining about the scandalous clothing, the sexy moves... they were upset that someone did a hip-hop style dance. They were really upset by a PG-rated "burlesque" dance someone did (there was no stripping). Just... wtf? I feel like I stepped into a thread populated by sheltered townfolk from the 1950s.

I made the mistake of reading the How To Get Away with Murder thread. Every single attorney had to make a big ol'deal about, that is not how real courts, law schools, lawyers work. Really? You have to be kidding. I thought all TV shows were exactly how real life worked. They just kept complaining about how annoyed they were that their profession was not being represented correctly. Then every nurse, Dr ect. had to chime in and agree and understood how that felt. It's a TV show for gods sake.

I don't know why people can't find it hilarious. I work in print journalism. When my field shows up on TV, we're either super noble folks who touch lives and will do anything for the story, which ultimately rids the world of evil. Or, we're these evil hacks out to get everyone and destroy lives with our lies and sketchiness. It's kind of awesome. There was an episode years ago on one of those CSI shows that hit really close to home for some colleagues, and we laughed so hard we cried watching it. Thanks for the good time, TV writers!
It's so not worth getting upset over. I'm not going to rant in a Gossip Girl or Revenge or Scandal thread about why it would never happen that way in real life. Most of the stuff happening on those shows wouldn't happen "that way" anyway. Are ninjas going to show up in the Revenge thread complaining on the inaccuracy of Emily Thorne's vengeance plan?

This is eerily true for librarians, although you left out the sexy/hag dichotomy Frankly, the most accurate portrayal of librarians that I've seen on TV is from the Australian series The Librarians--it's just a job for most people, with occasional moments of terrible judgments and the occasional mildly toxic personality.

Thomas Howell-in-Soul Man. There's no way they came up with that apt comparison without reading it here first by none other than yours truly. No way! All jokes aside, I have to say that I love The Knick thread. It's my favorite show right now and I feel like it doesn't get enough love. So thanks Previously.tv, for allowing a space to rave about this show!

See, I frequent the Murder thread all the time, and I actually don't notice too much hand-wringing over the inaccuracies of the show. There seems to be enough people on that forum who recognize the show isn't meant to be a documentary (and that an accurate depiction of many in the legal profession would probably be pretty dull). I just make a point of staying out of the law school thread, which I assume is designed for real-life lawyers to bitch about how unrealistic the show is.

So, I was catching up, and reading the first episode thread. I see that as the show goes on it has leveled off. My little rant was premature

That's because the nutjobs, mods and all, from TWOP came over to Previously.tv.
Here I was hoping that we could discuss the actual show, not what a POS Sam is for saying something mean to Dean 5 seasons ago.
Otherwise, it's not a bad forum.

It's kind of a mixed bag on a few threads. Someone was complaining about too many slavery stories in the Finding Your Roots thread, which I--just--no. On the other hand, there were some interesting comments and I like most of the posters.
