I saw this today and really liked it. The acting is top notch. Rosamund Pike is perfect as Amy. It is one of those rare times when the movie version actually matches the version I had in my head. Same with Carrie Coon as Go. I really, really loved her in this. And I can't believe I am saying this but Tyler Perry was excellent in this too. I read an interview with him where he said he was really inspired by David Fincher's directing so who knows, maybe he'll make better movies in the future too. Ben Affleck was pretty good but a little one dimensional. I think the character of Nick is fairly shallow so its no big deal. But I do think a better actor would have brought more layers to the role.
My one complaint is that in the translation to the screen some of the complexity of the central relationship was lost. I think that is to be expected whenever a book gets turned into a movie and this was a particularly tricky book to adapt. But if the book was fifty percent Nick's story and fifty percent Amy's, the movie is seventy percent Nick, thirty percent Amy. I have seen some reviews that have a real problem with the imbalance. But it didn't bother me too much, I still found it really enjoyable. Like I said, I think this was a hard book to translate and this is probably the best possible adaptation of Gone Girl that could exist. Oh and the movie is quite funny at times. There were a couple of scenes that would be incredibly tense and then there would be a line that would get a big laugh.
edited to add: I did not see the Ben Affleck full frontal part at all (crucial information, I know). I knew what scene it was allegedly supposed to appear so I was paying attention. If it is there, it is like a fraction of a second.

Another positive review here! I saw this yesterday and loved it! Rosamund Pike was just perfect: I couldn't see her as Amy before and now I can't imagine anyone else in the role.

The film critic I heard this morning said he hadn't read the book, so had no idea how the story would turn out. Because of that, he said he was at the edge of his seat for the entire movie. He gave it 4 1/2 stars out of 5. So I'm thinking it might be even more awesome not knowing the story. I went with a friend who hadn't read the book. She loved it and said she was glad she didn't know what was going to happen beforehand, so I'm thinking you're right. But even having read the book and knowing more or less what would happen, I still thought it was great. Rosamund Pike was good, but I found her accent a little distracting at times. In her first speaking scenes where she was meeting Nick at the party, I had trouble understanding her. But she played the ice queen role really well. I kept thinking of Gwyneth when I saw her, and did anyone notice her ex even saying she had the "ass of a 20-year-old stripper"? Did Affleck have them throw in a shout-out to the Goop herself?

Ironically this may have been part that Lady Goop herself would have been considered for a few years ago. Thanks for the reviews everyone hope to see it soon.

Everyone knows I've been waiting for this movie. I'm standing in line right now to see the movie. It's been sold out in my small college town, but oddly enough, it didn't sell out in Cape where they shot it. My review will come soon.

Just saw this and kept wishing I hadn't read the book. It's a good film (though I do not get the Fincher "best director evah!" hype that generally surrounds him) and I probably would have liked it better if I hadn't known what was coming which made it a tad boring for me. Also, Rosamund Pike's voice and speaking mannerisms were distracting IMHO.

Also enjoyed it a lot, and had read the book, but had forgotten a few of the details of the events, so was surprised by a few things too. Everyone was very good, and the audience (except the two latino whisperers a few seats near me [grrrr]) seemed to get more involved as things moved along.

Just saw it. I could tell by the way people were leaving the theater all silent and dejected that the film had its desired effect. I too think it would have been a lot more gripping if I hadn't read the book. Gillian Flynn wasn't bullshitting about the ending; certainly a few details were changed here and there, but in essence it was very faithful to the book. Rosamund Pike was outstanding. Ben was, well, Ben. I doubt he had to "act" much at all. I'm a huge David Fincher fan and this is right up there with his best work, although I think Se7en is still his masterpiece.

I saw today and really liked it. Thought everyone was great.
What wasn't great? In a packed theater where I couldn't move, the guy next to me pulls out a tray of chips and a jar of salsa and proceeds to stink up the place and SMACK thr chips. Luckily, before I got escorted out for hitting a stranger, he finished right after previews ended.
I actually really liked Tyler Perry. When I read the book I was picturing a Bob Odenkirk/Rob Hubel type.

Ven Affleck did a great job. However, Ms. Pike did outstanding. She brought Amy to life just the way she was written. NPH was great as Desi, although I kind of missed his Mom and Flynn's cleaver way of saying that she smells vaginal. The actresses playing Go, and Boney were spot on. Tyler Perry was spot on, and I didn't miss his wife. I loved seeing areas that I know. Loved the lady playing the Nancy Grace character. Overall, I really liked the movie. I usually don't like book to movie adaptations, but the casting was so wonderful.
