There was a question upthread about the car. I'm pretty sure the "getaway" car was ditched prior to the meet-up at the cadino. And I think at the end the car belonged to the "abductor". It was much flashier than the Craigslist bought car.

She was wiping off her getaway car right before she went into the casino to wait for Desi, I'm pretty sure she just left it there.

I noticed something else about the cat that bothered me. Ben puts him down when he gets home the morning of Amy's disappearance and the cat runs upstairs. Not too long after, he brings the cops upstairs and opens up the closed bedroom doors and there is the cat on the bed. Did I catch a movie mistake? Yaaaay. Love doing that. I noticed this too, but there were two entrances into the bedroom and the second door was open. Of course, I don't know where that second door lead to. If it was a closed bathroom, then yes - movie mistake. I saw this last night, and I guess I’m the outlier here because I wish that I had rented it instead of paying $20 to see it in the theater. I didn't read the book so I didn't know the twist. There were lots of surprises for me but most of the suspense was ruined by the fact that there isn't a single redeeming character in the film and not in that way that can be fun. IMO, Tyler Perry's character saved that movie. It would have been too dark otherwise with all of the narcissists running around. Affleck is a great director, but his acting is meh. I just found myself kind of not caring what happened to him because his performance is very surface. And I’m not an Affleck hater – I’m one of the few fans of Daredevil I know though that’s largely because of Jennifer Garner’s presence. Tom Cruise did a great job with this kind of character in Rainman, so it can be done. And I don’t normally think that Cruise is utterly fantastic either. The rest of the acting was pretty darn good though – the actress who played the sister in particular. Well, the girl with the nice rack was replaceable too, I guess. I like Fincher a lot - Zodiac is fantastic, for example. It's the source material for Gone Girl that I have an issue with – and that’s a matter of personal taste there. I have to have someone to root for or I lose interest which is what repeatedly happened to me while viewing this. Fortunately, then the lawyer (Tyler Perry) would appear as the Greek Chorus, and I'd be back in the movie. Also, I've come to realize that I hate movies with overly complicated revenge scenarios. If I had known that this was the central plot, I would not have gone to see this movie.

I am so glad I didn't read this before I went to see it. I had no idea what was going to happen, so I was on the edge of my chair a few times. I thought Affleck was great, but I like him. Amy was played to perfection. Wow. I thought everyone did a great job. Oh my God, Sela Ward is BEAUTIFUL. I loved it. Definitely want to see again.

Okay, I saw it tonight. I never read the book, and went in completely unspoilered.
I thought the movie was entertaining, and the acting was solid, but man, I was not expecting the movie to be so campy! Rosamund Pyke acted the shit out of her character, but that was some scenery chewing hilarity. A lot of the twists and turns of the story reminded me of TV thrillers from the '90s.
Anyway, I thought it was a fun movie, but it was pretty ridiculous.

I hated the book and still went to see it as I was under the (false) impression that the ending was different. Also hated the movie, though it's hard for me to separate the story/characters from the directing/acting. As the credits rolled the man sitting behind me yelled "bullshit!" Heh.

Just saw it. I could tell by the way people were leaving the theater all silent and dejected that the film had its desired effect. This sums up my reaction. I'm not familiar with the book, but I guessed the twists because one or two interviewers were trying to be clever about not ruining the plot. I hate it when reporters try to be funny. Pike was very good, although her demeanor would make me instantly suspect a twist even if I hadn't been somewhat spoilered. Affleck was okay, I find him extremely forgettable but the role suits him. I liked Tyler Perry and the cat. They provided some welcome lightness.

The more I think about it, the more I like the ending. I have some former co-workers that I consider to just be terrible human beings and while it's not likely they'll ever see real consequences for their asshole behavior, I take comfort in the fact that they're married to each other. Two nasty people that deserve one another.

This was my reaction--the book was an intense reading experience and made me angry, but the more it settled, the more the story really disturbed me, in a good way.

Quote (why won't the quote function display for me?) - I noticed something else about the cat that bothered me.
Actually, I read this here so when I finally got to see this movie last night, I intentionally paid close attention. Yes, Ben put the cat down, and yes, he opened the closed bedroom door and there was the cat. However, he says to the cops that he looked all over the house for Amy, so I assume there was some time between him setting down the cat and the cops getting there - during which time he was all over the house, opening and closing doors. At some point, the cat ended up in the bedroom and Ben closed the door.
Otherwise, yes, great casting all around. It had been a while since I read the book, so some characters I'd forgotten. I didn't think Ben's mistress chicky was all that; is she supposed to be some "hottest girl ever" or something? I thought she was odd-looking. Loved Go and the idiot neighbour and the cop. I don't understand the Tyler Perry hate, so I was fine with him from the get-go and he sure did add some needed levity. My husband didn't read the book, knew nothing of the plot, and isn't one for character-based movies (he prefers comedy or action). But he really liked GG too, and I could hear him chuckling and commenting next to me.
I can see a best drama pic nom for Golden Globes, but not Oscar. I can see a best actress Oscar nom for Rosamund Pyke and maybe a supporting one for Carrie Coon.
