All I remember from reading John McEnroe's autobiography ages and ages: 1. Tatum O'Neil is the worst woman in the whole world. Everything she does is terrible. 2. Patty Smyth is the most wonderful woman in the whole world. Everything she does is wonderful, mostly because she's nothing like Tatum O'Neil. In the podcast they discuss that early in their marriage (and parenthood) John was still playing tennis and Tatum was in a funk about her stalled career and he straight up called her a bad actress and said he told her to take acting lessons but she wouldn't listen to him. Tatum had an Oscar and was in a few classic movies from the 70s and 80s so I can understand why she might be offended by her husband offering this advice at that time. And even if the advice was well intentioned (she was a great child star, but the skills didn't carry into her adult career) I'm sure he did it as condescendingly as possible. And when would she have time to work and take care of their kids when he was still playing tennis and starting his career as a commentator? With Patty Smyth, right after they got married and had kids, he decided he wanted to be a rock star himself, started a band and went on tour, leaving her to take care of all their children. Patty put her foot down and he woke up to how selfish this was. The hosts state he is a supremely selfish human being and he admits that he's a jerk.

The latest episode about Molly Shannon’s memoir is really good and makes me want to read her book in full.

I'm listening to The Lolita Podcast and it's great. Whether you know nothing of the book and only know Lolita as a cultural reference or you have read it and thought "WTF?!", the creator really dives in.

I was locked into this podcast until the end. Incredible, thought-provoking work.

I'm listening to the "Fed Up" podcast about the F-Factor diet and its founder, Tanya Zuckerbrot. This diet consisted of these high fiber bars that had all kinds of horrible side effects, including bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, anal bleeding, and contributed to eating disorders. It was packaged in a self-help influencer style "wellness program." The story itself is an examination of the most lethal and unhealthy aspects of diet culture. So it's kind of disturbing that all the adds are for "wellness" products superfoods, probiotics, vitamins, "immune support" minerals, etc. that are suppose to improve your health. It's dangerously similar to the culture the podcast is indicting. Weird.

Ugh. My best friend got into Herbalife a few years ago. I am constantly torn between trying to be supportive of her and the fact that I think the company is a big cultish con job, which sells some very sketchy products. It's a huge industry that just preys on the worst fears and insecurities of the public.

I've been absolutely binge-listening to Crime in Sports, which combines one of my favorite topics (true crime) and a topic I'm learning about through the podcast (sports). Sometimes the episodes can be heartbreaking, like the one on Michael Jordan's inspiration, ( basketball's David "Skywalker" Thompson). There's also the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot episodes like the one on hockey's Bob Probert, which is mind boggling. The episodes are looooooooong, so this would definitely be time-consuming, but the stories are worth it. Seriously the Probert saga is beyond fascinating!
