Notable that the tweet is a story - not a screen shot of the Gervais tweet. I guess it’s equally possible it’s a true story or a guy who told a story on Twitter that got him attention.

So, you’re OK with Ricky Gervais scrolling through Twitter and blocking (or trying to get fired) those who are less prominent than him? This is not the only story of him being this hypersensitive of what people say about him.

I completely would block people. Life’s too short. In fact, it’s kind of what Ricky says. There’s no rule about who is supposed to block or not block people. Maybe he doesn’t like reading bad stuff about himself. Maybe they makes him human.
That complaining guy doesn’t have a link to Ricky’s tweet about him.

Blocking someone yes, very ok (and not particularly hypersensitive either). Trying to get same someone fired, not ok. ahah, good point. I hadn’t seen the original so just assumed there must be “receipts” for such a bold claim by the Twitter user, but it would fit into my take that if true it’s not ok but very out of character for Gervais.

This is not the only story of him being this hypersensitive of what people say about him. It's amazing how people who advocate for broad censorship and deplatforming on media that there is no compulsion for one to consume, and yet also criticize others for not allowing direct contact with individuals who are antagonizing them. To summarize, broad censorship = good; public individuals having any boundaries = bad. What's wrong with this picture? lordoftheflies, I have never advocated for Gervais to be censored or deplatformed in this thread, EVER. I re-read my posts and I never demanded nor requested that, not even once. I agree with keeping his Netflix special available for anyone to view and not for him to be banned or canceled (whatever that means). However, it is completely within the rights of trans people, trans allies, and other people that he mocked in his recent Netflix special (anti-Asian and ableist “jokes”), because it’s punching down on low-hanging fruit. He’s being a bully, and that doesn’t stop with his stand-up specials, but he does this on social media to the less powerful. That’s being hypersensitive and thin-skinned, and and he is not taking the criticism very well. Ridha, it seems very much in character for Gervais on social media that he’s going off after people who are less powerful (there are more tweets mentioning Gervais blocking them after criticizing him). That is the same thing that he’s done in the special that he’s received so much criticism for, by punching down on trans people who are being demonized in both the UK and US press. Others have reported on jokes in the Netflix special Supernature on Asians and disabled children, so that’s him. I actually tweeted the person who claimed that Gervais tried to get him fired to see if they kept the receipts, since some are skeptical of his claim.

I don’t make it a practice to be outraged by what I or others imagine. I find it’s easier to just stop imagining it.

As a public figure (or just existing as a human being on social media), you’re probably gonna have some nasty comments directed your way. Someone who brands themself as a caustic truth-teller yet can’t take the slight criticism of “I don’t find you funny“ is very hypocritical.
